Re: What got you started ?

... to Tas in the Reserve and SW (Pedder, parts of the Western Arthurs, Anne) as well as the high country of Vic. Growing up in Qld, we would explore Lamington and other areas. And then I and other friends would do so - including untracked and horribly impenetrable rainforest bashes. And from there, ...

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Is a Lamington a cake??? Yes Lamington is a cake. Years ago I walked some of the tracks around Binna Burra but not this one. I think you might be on one of the branches off the Border track. Are you on either the Wagawn or Mt ...

Watercourses: perenial vs intermittent

... for map elements such as intermittent vs. perennial watercourses. The difference is striking if one looks in the vicinity of adjoining Lamington NP (QLD) and Limpinwood NR (NSW). Cartographers do not always capture what is in the field, and even the states seem to change the classification ...

East and West Canungra Creek tracks

It’s been many years since I’ve walked from Blue Pool at Lamington to the junction of East and West Canungra creeks , and even then the track was being subsumed by regrowth. The last time I reached the junction it was by going up part of the Central ...

Re: Lamington Old Graded Track System

Thanks for the maps. The Gold Coast Bushwalk Club used to walk those tracks in the 1990s. They became very difficult to follow over the years with land slips, lantana, wait-a-while etc. We used to have 1 group starting at Binna Burra and another at O'Reilly's and take the 'middle ridge 'traverse' an...

Re: Lamington Old Graded Track System

Thanks very much for sharing those. A fair bit of that track is still there, although it’s not maintained. I think that maintaining it to a National Park standard just got too hard; the West Canungra Creek track was shut for years in the 1990s because of slips. The old Border Track section that dupl...

Re: Lamington Old Graded Track System

Bumping this topic . . . with a scan of my 1960's O'Reilly's Tourist Map with some of my first jaunts there marked and dated. I remember following a track from Fountain Falls across the ridge down to the Coomera River which was still easily traversed apart from occasional landslips, but that was in ...

Re: Lamington National Park experience

Nice one Tas-man and happy anniversary! Lot's of nice waterfalls along that circuit. I saw a black dingo on the track last time I was there. No more than 5 metres looking down at me from the switchbacks.

As no one has posted recently in this topic, I thought I had better give it a bump and share some of my most recent trip from Tassie to Lamington NP where my wife and I spent a few nights at O'Reilly's Guest House. We had our honeymoon here 43 years ago and decided to repeat the 17 kms Toolona ...

Yes, remote camping $7 per night. Always wondered why Lamington is closed. Xmas would be a busy season there.

... plans and they have designated "remote bush camps" which require bookings on the QPWS website. Also keep in mind some parks, like Lamington, have seasonal camping closures to allow for regeneration. Some parks, (e.g. Springbrook) prohibit camping entirely.

Re: Wild camping within a few hours of brisbane

... Parks & Forests say "Bush camping (with few or no facilities) is allowed in some parks" but finding those parks is a job-and-a-half. Lamington is one and is probably good for a first try as it is not too far from Brisbane and has a relatively good web site for bush camping. https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks/lamington/camping/bush-camping-summary ...

Re: Lamington NP- Black Canyon and the Lost World

Unfortunately I believe that the guesthouse is no longer trading. I heard that after a run of unpleasant tenants who trashed the place the owners got sick of dealing with the dramas.
I’d love to do the walk from Rat-a-tat to Lost World, it’s been on my list for a while.
