I really dont know what to say about this. Kind of dumbfounded, but thought I'd throw it out there to see what everyone else thinks.

When he grabbed the Tiger Snake, my heart skipped a beat!

This must be the least effective method for hunting rabbits... You need like 5 snakes to catch one rabbit... I don't know the guy, but this video makes him look like a moron to be honest. A daredevil know-all like Bear Grylls. And who holds snakes by the tail anyway ? You're supposed to grab their heads so they don't bite you...

YEah this confirms my first impression of this guy. He's just an idiot. He presents himself like a conservationist, while all he does is chasing and scaring protected wildlife... This actually might be illegal too. Hunting for food, no problem, but hunting to show off is just pathetic. Animals in hostile environment need to save their energy because food is scarce. All this *&%$#! is doing is making them burn that precious energy, and what if they don't find food ? Then this guy just killed them. At least only hunt feral animals you hipster doofus...

Horsley's "snake hunter" is back in the Illawarra after his solo bush trek, falling short of his 100-day target after citing mental confusion and exhaustion.Andrew Ucles, 22, set out on March 21 armed with just a tent, a kayak, a hunting knife and emergency beacon, leaving behind a video saying he did not want to be located.Although he told media he was heading to remote Queensland, a month later his friends said he had gone to the NSW/Victorian border.

Because it all staged. He probably owns the snakes. He just happened to stumble upon 3 red bellied black snakes and one tiger in such a small area...

He probably watched "into the wild" without realising the guy in the movie was actually pretty dumb to do what he did without even a map...

I agree. Bogan (redneck) culture tends to be. And kids love it:

There is no doubt some skill involved though.

it's russian roulette, if you read his website he states he's had a lot of scrapes with death, he's been doing it since he was a kid,,, been bitten by snakes a few times , had to walk hours or help in one instance....
you could be reading his obituary any time....
he said when he went bush intending to lie off the land for a hundred days he didnt want anyone to come searching for him if he didnt return...

Life would be pretty dull without the occasional Andrew Ecles popping up on the fringes

Not sure about the animal ethics of it but it was compelling watching.

My main issue was why go to all that trouble to catch a rabbit - just eat the bl%%dy snakes!

(I have also watched a couple of episodes of "Turtle Man". He has a certain Deliverance-style fascination - sort of amusing, though for the record I don't want any of my daughters to date him!)

I am no lover of serpents however I believe what this "hero" is doing amounts to animal cruelty !! wonder what he would do if he encountered a coastal Ti-pan ?? (spelling) cannot be good for the Snake being held by the tail upside down for a longish time .

The funny thing is this is the exact same sort of conversation that would have been had when Steve Irwin first appeared as The Crocodile Hunter all those years ago...

if you read his site he talks about growing up in a middle class materialistic family that he wasnt happy with
is it a case of a disillusioned, energetic young man watching steve irwin thinking, "well how hard can that be?"

I suspect that the one and only rabbit, after a couple of hours underground, stuck his head up without even knowing that some snakes had been shoved down the warren.

Loved the dance moves whilst he's waiting but he needs to spend some time in the gym if he's going to skip the shirt and do a few poses for the camera

That's what I thought when I first saw this.

Snakes often share burrows peacefully with other animals if they feel threatened. Example, by bushfire, cold, or any other threat (Human?).

too true.

It was staged with pre captured animals, I know an individual involved that day.
A lot of people in the herp community were not impressed in the least.

In regard to numbers of snakes in one area, it is certainly possible to find that many on the south coast: My record is three tigers and 9 blacksnakes in about two hours on a couple of golf greens and adjacent swamp, all found basking (and we saw a couple more that were too quick for us)
