We are very, very lucky to have a friend in Melbourne who has put us up in her flat for a few days.

This is certainly not weather to be living in a tent.

Especially as people continue to light fires and leave them unattended. In this wind and this heat, it just beggars belief.

We got hit with 43 in Mildura and 45+ in Mungo and thought we had had it rough, but it wasn't nearly this windy, nor as many idiots.

Quite happy to have a roof instead of canvas today, even though a roof without aircon still seems to be oven-like

I'm envious, I live in the same town as zone 5, I have a tiled roof and the master bedroom is upstairs. I think we'll be dragging a mattress downstairs tonight as the AC won't hold up much longer.

Were it not for it being peak tourist season and also when I'm at my most unfit (and I guess not being made of $) I think I'd move to new Zealand each year for Jan/Feb. Beautiful country and none of this heat.

dunno, the sun and humidity can still get you a bit in NZ if you're not careful, someone i know collapsed running from heat exhaustion the other week. someone measured the temp of a cows back in the sun, it was 55 degrees.... still if you can get higher up its pretty good..

45 is a cake walk for us South Australians.

All my Melbourne friends complaining about 40 degrees... That's a cool change in Adelaide :)

Car was registering 47 picking family up from work at about 1pm...

It's suddenly gotten windy up here in the hills and there are a few spots of rain! Temperature has dropped 6c in the last 20 minutes.

I would say that having lived in both Adelaide and Melbourne, I'd take 40c in Adelaide over Melbourne any day.

It tried to rain at about 1640 where I work yesterday, in the distance you could see the rain falling but then it stopped before reaching the ground.
It did eventually rain though.

Up here in the hills, the max we had was a bit over 38C

Down in Kent Town, they saw 43.7C at 2:05PM. Interestingly Adelaide Airport temps are climbing at 4-5PM Currently 41.2C

Didn't go for my morning walk today and had a short 2km yesterday. Given the temps for the rest of the week, I can't see much walking in the park this week either :)

I actually prefered Melbourne in the heat than Southern France in the heat. Melbourne has plenty of air conditionned public places, while it isn't the norm in France, including in the workplace. Also, temperatures drop down by 15 to 20° at night, there's rarely what's called a heat wave in Melbourne under French definition, which is when the temperature barely drops at night (meaning 35° during the day, 25/30° at night). These heat waves happen more often (every 2 or 3 years now) in France, and old people drop like flies : in 2003 we had 35/40° days and 30° nights, no wind, about 10 000 deaths in one summer in France were directly linked to the unusual heat (with only 25 due to bushfires). People seem more prepared in Australia.

UN report says temperatures in Adelaide will make it world's hottest city on Thursday

ADELAIDE will be the hottest city in the world today, according to a global forecast by the United Nations.

Gathering official predictions from around the globe, the UN's World Meteorological Organisation estimated Adelaide's 46C would not be topped in any major population centre.

Only other Australian cities were predicted to come close to Adelaide's top, with Canberra expected to reach 40C, Melbourne 44C and Mt Gambier 45C.

I guess we are more prepared. We've had hot nights this week Hallu a very uncommon thing out here in the foothills. We usually cool nicely at night but the last few have been high 20's minimum. I'd hate to be in the big smoke with all those other concrete heatbanks close around me. It's 41 at the moment but because of no cool nights the temp inside has crept up to around 29 and will likely go higher. Our poor old aircon is cracking a sweat

You can't get them any more as weatherzone won't support it but it still works perfectly. Weatherzone have poo-poo'ed it because there is no need to go to their site to see the weather so they stopped it's DL to get more clicks for their advertisers!

It will also give you customised weather warning pop-ups and international weather if you want..

It's freeware @ 3MB ..

I have attacheded the free-ware 'weather & pollen tracker' lastest releases here so you can DL and use it for yourself.. 8)

Grab 'em as they are free-ware and are amazingly good as they can auto update every minute!
