5 minutes is far too short. Particularly if you have a temperamental internet connection.

One of the other forums I belong to has a 4 hour edit window - I'd suggest going to something like that.

In the photo comp, it would be handy to be able to edit a post with the location of the photo as a caption after someone has correctly identified it, even if it was posted a few days previously.

In the where am I games participants are supposed to edit their photo after it has been correctly identified.

I'd like a bit more edit time for the same reason as well as..............
Sometimes I post something (on an number of other forums as well) which at the time reads well but later appears to be gibberish or could be taken the wrong way.
It is good for a person to be able to rectify those types of problems.

Ok - just picked up on this thread.
[And crossed over a few posts with the same thought at the same time - wow]
I try not to offend people so I post slowly and carefully, but I am very dislexic with my fingers - so lots of quick edits.
However, there was one aspect of editing that was a nice feature - and that was the ability to edit photo posts in the Games to add the details to the photo once it had been guessed.
I suspect that would have been one of the reasons [if not the main reason] for a 60 day grace period.
Do we presume that facility is now gone..?

It is a good point Pteropus, Doogs and eggs about the where am I game
-- Nuts is right -- We are trying to work on it. But at the moment it is a site wide setting.
In the mean time just hit the report button and ask a moderator add the location name to the post. We can do it quickly still.

I am hoping that we can work out a more friendly solution soon - but at least that work around keeps the game flowing (it is such a great game)

Hope that is OK for now.

thanks all

Matt :)

You could only allow editing in specific sections of the forum, such as the games and competition one. Or you could limit editing to only a few words, since what you want to prevent is apparently the total removal of content.

Got out on the wrong side of the bed this morning ILSWT? :P

I think what Wildwalks was suggesting is that if you wanted to edit your photos for the game, that would be the way to go about it, not that you had to do it. I know I've never bothered on the rare occasion I get to play. People can work it out b looking at the guesses if they want to!

Exactly what the "Preview" button is for - see how it will look when posted, fix any errors, preview again, then post. And, after posting, you have 5 minutes to change it.

Given it takes days to respond to a report telling a member to [Text removed by moderator], do you really have time to make minor corrections? I've seen you complain multiple times about not having time to moderate topics, and why is there a quick reply button if we should all be so careful?

I have my own thoughts on editing (not only that i'd personally be lost without it :( ) but ..
you both know that it Very Rarely would take that long.. so what's with this then? some other reason it sat there possibly?
And it's probably not so much a matter of (or only of) time as a limit to patience.. just a guess, just saying..

There's no doubt self-editing has it's good and bad. Maybe for those who have used it to thwart forum rules (aka playing fair) should loose the privilege?
