Forums on Tapatalk for mobile devices

Postby Son of a Beach » Wed 03 Feb, 2010 8:17 am

Tapatalk is a mobile forum app for iPhone / Android and soon to be on Blackberry and Nokia. Tapatalk supports all the usual forum functions plus full screen image viewing, image upload, caching (less reload), private messaging, all these features are accessible in just a few simple taps.

Re: BW Forums Now on Tapatalk for iPhone, Android (Others So

To get Tapatalk for iPhone, go to the App Store direct link:
http://itunes.com/apps/tapatalk (full version with post/reply)
http://itunes.com/app/tapatalkro (free read-only version without post/reply, image thumbnail viewing only)

Thanks to BarryJ for the suggestion. I've not really used it properly yet, but will fiddle a bit over the next few days to see how well it works. It seems good so far, but I've only got the free (read-only, no posting/replying) version on my hand-held as yet.

Any comments about this new addition to accessibility are welcome. However, please do not ask me to add support for other platforms. Such requests need to go to the application developers at http://www.tapatalk.com/ (after checking their plans for other supported platforms).

NB: Bushwalk Tasmania and Bushwalk Australia are listed under "Miscellaneous" as it didn't really fit any of their other categories. I could have put it under "Sports", but I figured that's probably more for forums for spectators of popular sports. Of course it's currently easy to find under the "New" tab also.

Look for the large foot print from our logo, then add it to your Tapatalk 'Favourites' (or do a search for "bushwalk" within Tapatalk):

Thanks, Nik. I was introduced to the app on another forum and found it so good, I invested in the paid version.

My main gripe with Tapatalk is that it doesn't have any way of jumping to the first unread post within a page (which is the only way I ever use the forums for topics I've visited before). Even visually, there is nothing to distinguish the unread posts from the read ones when scrolling through.

Until they fix this, using the web browser is still a more efficient way for me to use the forums.

Other than this one drawback, it is an exceptionally good product, and makes for much easier forums usage on the handheld device.

Just started using it now. Didn't think I'd like it but its certainly quicker than pinch zooming all the time.

I find double-tap zooming better than pinch zooming in Safari for most things. But TapaTalk is even easier still. It still lacks any means of distinguishing (and skipping to) new posts though, which is very annoying.

Wow... TapaTalk is finally useful for me! It has recently had upgrades to both the client (on the mobile device) and the forums component. One of these (I think it was the forums component I just installed today) has finally implemented the feature I wanted most: Jump straight to the first unread post when navigating from the unread topics/posts view.

Now I can finally use TapaTalk as my primary means of reading these forums when using the hand-held. Makes for MUCH easier reading that the web browser (the web browser is excellent, but the forums software is not particularly mobile friendly without significant CSS or hacking changes).

And will it work on a HTC HD2?
Oh, doesn't matter, my company doesn't enable any data so I can't browse anyhow.

If it runs Android, then Yes! :-) It runs on a variety of mobile platforms, including Android, iOS, Blackberry.

No, it runs sucky, SUCKY WinMo 6.5 (there are rumours about a WP7 upgrade in the wings, but I doubt it). Although I have a mate who's running Android 2.2 on it. Not quite as snappy as my Desire (the HD2 has to re-boot Android off the SD card after booting WinMo) but it works ok and is mostly functional (except for bluetooth, which we found out recently).

Forgot to include that it runs on Nokia as well. So a reasonable coverage of a range of mobile devices.

But alas, no Windows mobile, Windows CE, Pocket PC version (or whatever MS calls it these days).

EDIT: Apparently the new version of MS' mobile OS was introduced as "Windows Phone" yesterday. My mistake.

Tapatalk users may need to re-login to the forums, as I've just changed the Tapatalk forums registration to the Bushwalk Australia name and URL instead of the Bushwalk Tasmania name and URL, in order to make it more universal. For me it all worked OK, and I only needed to re-login.

I guess it's possible that for some Tapatalk users, they may need to browse/search in order to find the forums in Tapatalk, and create their forums settings in Tapatalk again, but this was not necessary for me.

(This all done while upgrading the Tapatalk plugin for the forums to the latest version - 2.2.1).
