Sunday Tasmanian Article on Bushwalk Tasmania

Postby Son of a Beach » Tue 29 Jan, 2008 5:25 pm

The Sunday Tasmanian (newspaper) may be worth a read this coming Sunday. They're running an article on internet forums, using some Tasmanian examples, including Bushwalk Tasmania. I suppose that means they think we're all right!

Anyhow, grab a copy on Sunday and check it out, then point it out to any bushwalkers you know who haven't yet signed up here. :)

EDIT (4th Feb): The article was published in the paper yesterday, and is now attached further down in this topic.

Well, I've read the article published today. Overall, a good little bit of publicity for us. Of course, as with most newspaper journalism, there were a couple of quotes where I thought, "did I really say that?", or "that's not quite what I meant", but in general it gets the gist of Bushwalk Tasmania across to the Sunday Tasmanian readers.

Most importantly, our URL was published in large bold red lettering, which is nice. Unfortunately, it broke across two lines, right at the hyphen, which has the potential to confuse readers who may not realise the hyphen is required (grrr... I wish I could get the domain without the "-", but the current owner never replies to my emails!). However, our URL is repeated again later in the article, all on one line this time, along with a list of other Tasmanian forum sites.

Thanks to Rebecca, the writer, if you're still lurking about these forums. Although I know it's not intended as a promotional piece, I'm still grateful for the promotion that I'm sure it's provided (eg, 5 new members already today, being the busiest day for new memberships for several months, and it's only midday!).

Yeah, sorry to all those who have already submitted their entries for the competition (NOT! ;) ), but I had no idea this article was in the pipeline until after opening the competition (really, truly, honestly). Makes it much more interesting though, for anyone who's not yet sent in their entry. :)

Sorry for the posy photo... not my idea! :-)

If you don't want to be bothered downloading and reading it all, here's a miniaturised image showing the basic spread:

Very posey indeed. Good article though. It ends a bit abruptly.

20 new members since it was in paper and still counting...this really has buggered up my bid in the comp :D

There's a noticeable bump in the web site visits graph on the 3rd/4th of February.
