Hi.

I bought some 1443R recently from Medirite in Sydney. They make wheel covers for spray painters out of it. Tyvek was $3 +GST per metre in 1.5m width, freight worked out nearly the same - it came rolled on a big cardboard tube.

I bought it to experiment with for a tarp based on terrarossagear's positive experiences of the fabric. Its light, and a lot more pliable than homewrap. Haven't found any tyvek tape in Aus yet. Dupont reckon they couldn't sell it here so they don't bring it in any more.

HTH. I don't know if I just got lucky or if Medirite will continue to sell it like this. YMMV :)

Photohiker were you able to buy it from Medirite by the metre or have you bought a whole roll?

By the metre. I bought 10m.

I didn't query if they would do shorter lengths, I just emailed them (and a bunch of other suppliers who use it in their products, most didn't respond) and asked if I could buy some. I don't know what's in a roll, probably 100+m ? too much for me :)

If you were in Sydney, you could probably pick it up to save money. Perhaps with enough interest, one of our Sydney members could buy a roll and ship out small amounts like the homewrap?

Hi
Just wondering if there's any more tyvek available. A couple of metres should do me for a footprint for my new Hubba and a bit spare for... whatever.
thanks

Hi All,

I think I would like some Tyvek to go under my new tent. It seems it is hard to come by.... Does anyone have any to sell? BTW Is the only advantage of this stuff over a tarp, its light weight?

Thanks Matt.

Hi people, I'm pleased to announce Tyvek will be available very soon. I will PM members who have posted their interest here recently. The Tyvek is $6.50 per metre and it comes on a 2.7m wide roll and can be used for oodles of things. .
Cheers, Cyn

I've been bushwalking with the Adelaide Bushwalkers for two years now and am ready to downsize my pack load. One of our members told me about Tyvek over the weekend so I've spent a little time Googling today - my tent's footprint (minus vestibles) is 2.2m x 1.3m or 87"x51". I would like to purchase some Tyvek from Australia. My next extended trip is the Tasman Peninsula from 8th February and I was hoping to get it before then, is this possible please?

I'd like a bit for the Pacer 2 at some stage too

Could you make a cosy or a kilt/skirt or a roll mat/hip pad out of this stuff too?

Been playing with some old foam mats and cutting them up to do all sorts of things has got me thinking

Yup.... the original Tyvek house tape adhesive works well for sealing the material too...

... not entirely sure of the GSM rating... but heres some images to go by (thats a 30cm ruler there for scale)..... it isn't the cloth material type but the "HomeWrap" that you want for a ground sheet.... it is more like the flat plastic woven threads in animal feed sacks or fertiliser bags than cloth..... here's some images to help - note the thread weave in the close-up. hope this helps. BTW it is a little slippery as is but if you give one side a light spray with a silicon waterproofer can (like from Big W dfor cloth waterproofing) the rubber gives it some grip, and adds to the waterproofing i spose.... cheers Liam

Hi. It's Don Rusby from Adelaide again. Just checking if you have been able to aquire any Tyvek yet? I know I said I didn't need any until September but I am now going to walk part of the Larapinta Trail in late June and would like to get some to try.
