TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Lol, hope I get similar service eventually! Can only hope.

Tried the local Aussie stockist, no prices or way to order online, rang and got answering machine, emailed and am waiting for reply. Basically your typical level of Australian retail service.

Campsaver have 20% off at the moment and free shippin on orders over $400. Makes the ones on Gumtree kinda overpriced!

Why is it a nuisance ? You just change the address on your campsaver account, and instead of paying Campsaver for shipping, you pay the forwarding company. You've just got to find one with the most shipping options (like shipito) and avoid the ones that force you to use FedEx or other expensive couriers. It can even be less expensive if you ask the forwarding company to compact your items in a small parcel, as CampSaver tends to use bulky parcels unnecessarily.

That's interesting. Might be an unofficial dstributor. Hilleberg thought they didn't have one here or in NZ as of about 0900h today anyway.

Postby Miyata610 » Tue 30 Apr, 2013 5:32 pm

No they havent.

From Petra Hilleberg today.....

Dear Philip

Thank you for your email.
I am sorry that you experienced some problems trying to buy the tent.
We do have a few countries in Asia where we have distributors and
since they are working hard to promote the brand there we have asked
our retailers here to not ship to those countries.

However, you are correct in that we do not have any representation in
Australia and that we can ship to you there from here. Campsaver were
being extra careful and had misunderstood our policy on Australia and New
Zealand.
I have talked to them and they will update their policy.

I have forwarded your email to their management so that they can take
care of it.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Petra Hilleberg

Why stuff around with a re shipper and by some accounts MSR is targeting that loop hole. It all gets too hard so in the end I dump that brand and hunt for another. Refuse to have anything to with Cascade Designs Australia due to their distributor. A store owner I personally have known for twenty five years describes them like dealing with the tax office but much worst. My experience can only confirm this!

Probably One Planet from the new range. Maybe Exped depending how they respond re the failed Downmat. Looked at a few Terra Nova but rather short for tall people. A few options but Hilleberg just design and build their tents so well. Simple to put up in freezing blowing a gale type conditions and dare I say, you can "live" in them in adverse conditions.

the aussue dealers probably arent distributors but just retailers for overseas distributors

Yes it is true when posted. And good luck in getting MSR products from them and BD is hit and miss. You can get right through to paying and have your order knocked back.

Yeap a boycott is in order because even if you do not mind paying ridiculous mark up to the sole wholesaler you still struggle to get warranty and even spare parts that are only a click away in the USA. It is very strange that our free capitalist retailers are happy to push to break the power of unions, hammer kids into workplace agreements, but then run crying to the government wanting protection and hand outs plus restrictive trade arrangements that would be illegal if originated in Australia between Australian companies. I think sthughes summed up what you can expect from many Australian wholesalers.

Let competition run free. And for the record I found with touches and headlamps from specialist brands the local Australian distributors match USA prices so it can be done but the dinosaurs that dominate wholesale/retail just have not woken up instead relying on effective monopolies to price gouge. O'well back to the two airline policy and tariffs plus quoters to protect an inefficient industry.

Well done Phil. Does show that consumer action can overcome mistakes or poor policy. Now Cascade Design next? What you need for that is a very large wall and helmet to protect your head as the Australian distributor is entrenched.

Given that there is a thread with an email from Hilleberg addressing this very matter that was, apparently, received at around 0900 today, which precedes your post by some 7-odd hours, your statement was no longer true at the time you posted it.

Or are you saying Campsaver will no longer ship anything to Australia?

Sorry I do not keep up with every thread and missed the Hilleberg one until now. My comments on MSR and Black Diamond remain. Besides the item ordered is now out of stock so likely the discount will be missed.

Boycott?? Oh, please  delusions of grandeur? are you guys small nations ??

The fact is that they sell the best stuff, it's simple! If you want it, you pay! Imagine that they never offered it to an Aussie distributor or that the Aussie may have overheads, or even that a local warranty would be an advantage if that helps.

Or yeah, just buy the lesser gear.

As of this very second Campsaver has refused to ship Hilleberg to me, stating Hilleberg will not let them ship to Australia. That is where Ent is getting his facts from. I emailed Hilleberg at about 8am this morning to confirm this new policy, but have so far had no response (no big surprise given time zones etc). The fact someone else has had better luck since is great, but doesn't make Ent's comments untrue, in the case of my situation they were true when he made them and unfortunately remain true, a situation I hope changes overnight.

I can confirm Campsaver are (as of about 7am this morning) happy to ship other products to Australia (and do so free of charge if the order exceeds $400).

I dont agree that their products are the best.

You dont need to be a nation to boycott.

A forum is a good way to voice an opinion and take some action, even in a small way.

Unless a moderator doesnt like it of course.
