TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Snow Trekking Equipment List

Postby Alpinetreka » Wed 03 Jul, 2013 3:54 pm

Hello fellow trekkers,

I am an avid snow camper who is currently living in balmy Indonesia. I am planning a snow-caving/camping trip IVO Mt Kosciuszko / Mt Townsend this winter. However in my haste to move overseas, have misplaced my equipment list. After several previous outings where I have forgotten key pieces of equipment - such as that critical dry pair of socks or backup ration of port - I have come to live by my list.

If any of you have complete WINTER equipment lists you would be willing to share, I would love to see them so I can piece a new list together before my trip.

Many thanks in advance, Aaron

Hi Aaron,

salam hangat dari Victoria - Where in Indonesia are you based and what are you doing? I was working in KalBar for a couple of years in the mid-90s – learned the language and had a great time.

That’s one long list, moondog, but I’d add a snow-shovel.
As you are aware, the w'proof/mag matches are a necessary back-up to the BIC (which doesn’t work well when wet or cold) and the spare ski tip is vital – I’ve always carried one on x-country ski-trips – and actually needed it once. !

We are responsible for the health of the planet - not it for ours

Big yellow shovel but not on that list LOL
I never have had trouble with Bic lighters but I always have back-up.
Usually the magnesium and flint army emergency thingies but sometimes just matches in a slip of wax paper are just as good
