Sleeping mat probs....

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Sleeping mat probs....

Postby puredingo » Mon 27 Jun, 2016 8:18 am

G'day all, I recently purchased a STS UL sleeping mat and found it deflated slightly over night.
Is it normal to expect some air to escape over an 8 hour sleep or do I need to shirt front my local Mountain Designs!??

Hi
I have two of these one works perferfectly and the othr deflates slightly over the night. I have my suspicions i think its the one way valve dosent seat properly and lets out air. Have you checked the mat for punctures?

Is that a thing?...it was freezing, my water bottle turned to ice through the night!

DK, I suspected the valve also, either I didn't push the cap in hard enough or it seeping slowly through it somehow. Shouldn't be a puncture as the site was soft and flat. Did you not bother to return your faulty one?

Yes it happens to me all the time when sleeping on snow and it is one of the main reasons I carry the CCF pads as well. Make sure that the valve area is really clean too.

Normal. Air contracts when cold. Inflate as close as possible to going to bed.

slight deflation is within the norm, going all the way to the ground, that's a problem.

when packing them up i notice ones plump and ones softish instead of both being plump.i havent returned them but when i get fed up with it i will. Its not really an issue yet and soon enough will be looking to get something a little thicker.
