TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Time for a new pack

The time has come to replace my 20 year old Hallmark Phoenix. I would like some ideas of packs to look at so i can start window shopping. It's obviously been 20 years since my last purchase, so what's changed. I would prefer a canvas material and in the order of 80L+- as i regularly walk with my 11yo daughter and 4yo son.

I'm selling an 85L One Planet Strezlecki which might do the trick. It is made from waterloc canvas. https://www.oneplanet.com.au/product/pa ... trezlecki/
That, combined with the awesome harness system means it comes in a bit heavier, but is super tough and comfortable.

Otherwise, Mont and Wilderness Equipment do tough canvas packs.

One major change has been the material. Canvas is largely out of favour unless there's a specific reason.

Summit Gear are another great option for an Aussie made old school style canvas pack. Personally I prefer them to OP due to their simplicity, no unnecessary overly adjustable harness, just one that works and is thus lighter for eg. Certainly worth checking out if you are anywhere near Sydney.
