Car camping SB question

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Car camping SB question

The Boss really needs a new sleeping bag to be comfortable
Wild Earth have what may be a suitable bg on sale at the moment

https://www.wildearth.com.au/buy/caribe ... g-bag/5424

I'm wondering if anybody here has any experience wth these and can comment
I am automatically assuming that the temperature rating is the extreme one and comfort is about 5 to 8C which is plenty warm enough for car camping
It is mainly the boxed foot combined with the huge width that has made me take a look , neither of us like out feet constricted and this one is cheap enough

Can't comment on that bag but I was until recently using an Oztent -5 sleeping bag for car camping with my swag. I always found I was cold in it as it was too big for me I think but that was lined in fleece and was very nice to lie in.

I have just changed it to a new Darche Cold mountain 900 -12 and spent 4 nights last week sleeping in it on a boat at sea. Thoughts so far is its a nice bag and was super warm.

The Darche might be worth a look and priced pretty close to that one you're looking at. reviews I found online were favorable as far as temp rating etc as well...

It was that particular bag that caught my eye, being lighter and less warm then the current one.
That is a bit bigger and warmer than the Darche Cold Mountain, rated survival -30F, comfort -10F; way too warm even if Cecile does feel the cold

With 2x200gsm insulation it must be really warm even if the insulation is low quality. I thought it might be 200gsm insulation on each of the top and bottom but it must be 2x200gsm for each layer judging by the total weight, even with the large size. (3.1kg! I couldn't imagine even trying to make something that heavy). Anyway if you had that weight of Climashield Apex it'd rate something like -28C if you extrapolate cottage vendor ratings. It also has a packed size of about 38L.

If it's what you're after then I don't see anything really wrong with it but the packed size would put me off even for car camping but I guess it depends what sort of car you have and how many people you go with.

Haven't used that bag.

The Tundra is "warmer" than the Darche, I would doubt that.

The Tundra has "2 x 200gsm Thermal Loft Extreme insulation"

The Darche has "700gsm (2 x 350gsm two layer) hollow fibre filling" https://darche.com.au/product/cold-moun ... -rightzip/ The Darche is currently on special at $84

Be careful about the sleeping bag ratings unless the manufacturer shows that the sleeping bag has been correctly tested to EN13537: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EN_13537 Neither brand appears to have their sleeping bags scientifically tested.

No photohiker mate
Ceciles current bag is too warm, it is one of those huge American bags meant for hunting camps in the mountains, Rolls up to a bundle a meter long and 400mm in diametre, we want something less warm.
Sensory issues associated with MS make the boxed foot attractive and the main reason I looked twice at it.

Well that explains it. Should have put that info in your first post.

Good luck with it :)

Yes I should have. I just double checked the bag information This bag is a SlumberJack, one of those American brands that cater for big people
84 *42inches and with 96 ounces of Hollowfill; that's about 490GSM and it has one of those clip in removable fleecy liners and the Slumberjack rating for comfort is 0F not -10F
I suppose the Darche would be warmer if the liner wasn't being used
My mistake

I was making an inquiry at One Planet yesterday and the OP Polar overbag which is large is actually much cheaper at $179- and Andrew has stock for sale at the factory door and at 320GSM it is probably warm enough.
