Pairing/tripling semi-matched tents. Lets brainstorm ideas

Bushwalking gear and paraphernalia. Electronic gadget topics (inc. GPS, PLB, chargers) belong in the 'Techno Babble' sub-forum.

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Pairing/tripling semi-matched tents. Lets brainstorm ideas

Somebody on Gearfreak is selling a Fairydown Assault cheaply and I've made an offer because I have one already.
I'm thinking of perhaps doing some very quick methods of joining them to give a largish basecamp shelter
I also have the Fairydown Duo of the same vintage that I bought through the forum last month and of course I have some spare wands and alloy poles and of course my trusty Plataea in the same colour scheme

Google modular tents - several systems - really it's just a matter of rigging up connecting dry spaces.

I think I prefer your original barnstorming - picturing you diving in one vestibule and out the other with a rug rat on your back :)

I was thinking about something a little bigger than the Moki connector system
These old Assault tents have that short ridge pole and perhaps that could be extended or I could put another transverse wand across using the cheap Duo as the donor

The tricky part is the detail...
The ridge pole on those tents points downwards. Extending that it will not work.
I am thinking that maybe a sacrificial pyramid tent with two or three of those Fairydown having the front inside one side each of the cut to size pyramid sides could work if the mid pole is high enough. That would leave the door a side of a four sided mid free.

I never had the problem of not been able to suggest ways to spend other people's money.

The idea was to not increase the load (snow/wind) on the existing tents and to have pretty much just a covered area between the two or three separate shelters.

Well they are still available on-line but at $99- now that the huge sale discount is over
I can see how this would work too with not too much work

I may get into trouble with Cecile but I just bought one of the cheap tipis
AfterPay so just within my budget and of course I already have a super strong central pole to use

Yes, the centre pole is the bit to watch otherwise if taut and steep enough the walls will shed wind and snow.
Mind you, not that I think it is all that simple to do but should keep you busy for a while.

Funny you should say that but it isn't going to happen.
This coming winters base camp will be set-up on the flat site where the old camp huts were placed was so room won't be a problem. Wind however will be

OK I've made a mistake and this tipi is being returned. QC issues in the stitching and in general not as good as the red one I had a few seasons ago. However looking though eBay there are some old style Kathmandu Retreat hubs for sale that will most probably work without too much modification and not too much more expensive.

Add a centre pole tho just to be sure
