Levity and Luminas now in stores

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Levity and Luminas now in stores

Postby warnabrother » Mon 12 Mar, 2018 10:39 am

Went and looked at the new Osprey Levity and Lumina over the weekend..
They tick all the boxes for me except for the fact the pockets are not mesh !!
I would have bought one if they were, but I overstuff my front pocket now on my Exos and with the non stretchy fabric on the Levity this would encroach on the inner storage space.. The front outer pocket does have small stretchy gussets on the seams but not enough for my needs.

Anyone bought one yet ??

I haven't bought one as my Exos 48 is still going well for longer walks. One thing I think is an improvement that you don't like, is having the side pockets made from something other than mesh. Those mesh side pockets don't handle the scrub well at all. Mine are ripped and need fixing.

Several people I know have Exoses, and their mesh pockets are all shredded and/or patched. Maybe the ideal improvement would have been more stretchy solid fabric?

how much do they retail for? I can't see them for sale in Australia in a quick google search. They are coming up at $300 on Trekinn which means prob around $350-400 in the shop, I'm guessing?

The pockets are a heavier duty 210D Nylon X 200D UHMWPE to aid with durability of the 30D Cordura mainpack. They are quite loose with a draw string at the top so you can stuff extra equipment or clothing in them.

Here is a review on the Paddy Pallin blog http://www.paddypallin.com.au/blog/ospr ... ck-review/

The packs hit the Australian stores this week.

Prices are:
60L $289.95
45L $249.95

* I work for the Osprey distributor so have simply stated the facts and given no personal opinion.

Casey a question for you then. Do all Osprey packs and especially the one in Waynos link have the separate sleeping bag section? I really prefer a single *&%$#! great sack for my gear

The Aether & Arial Pro's are very different to the Levity/Lumina. They are more of a stripped down version of the original Aether and Arial for light weight alpine assents or back country trips. They feature removable hip pockets and lid, more burly fabrics and a more supportive harness that can carry loads up to 27kg.

The Exos and new women's Eja are a far closer relation to the Levity and Lumina.

G'day Moondog

There are a few packs that don't have the zippered opening at the base for a sleeping bag.

The mentioned Aether/Arial Pro's, Levity/Lumina and Exos/Eja all have a single main compartment.

I like you personally don't like or use the zippered opening at the base. I simply fold away the divider, pop in my pack liner and forget about the bottom opening. Its a shame there is a slight weight penalty of the zips that I don't need or use, but it still allows me to pick the style of pack I prefer.

Cheers

I believe Osprey's warranty promises to repair any of their packs no matter how old. Have you inquired about this?

I recently bought a 2017 Exos before they disappeared as I knew the 2018 version didn't have hip pockets (strange thing to remove) and I think weighed a little more. So I'll try not to look at the Levity at the risk of feeling like I should have got that instead! I haven't used it yet and have been a little unsure about the fit.

Hip pockets were removed to allow skinny thru hikers to tighten the belts up enough..
I made my wife a small pocket for her Eja.

Your not the only one to get a 2017 with the coming 2018 'updates'.
The Exos can carry more weight than the Levity, so for me it is the Exos.

Osprey Exos or Osprey Levity - Which Backpack to Get?

With Osprey offering two (four if you include the female models!) lightweight backpacks which share a similar construction the Question arises: Which backpack should I get? With this wee article I’ll try to help you answer that question!

easily accessible pockets and large external stretchy sleeve pockets mean you can access more of what you need without taking your pack off... and you can put more in the outside and access it without having to spend time opening the pack up and fossick around for what you need.

Have to ask... how skinny are some people...

I have a size 30 waist and there is plenty of room to tighten the hip belt on my 2017 model exos. Doesnt interfere with the hip belt pockets at all. Im really disapointed in Osprey for removing the pockets. They are one of the best features of the pack.

What size harness ?.. I believe it is/was guys using a L harness with small waists having issues..
But really.. it took me all of 10 minutes to make my wife a large pouch to go on her hipbelt that is larger and more useful than the pockets on my old Exos

I have a medium. Fairly dumb of osprey in my opinion to remove a feature like hip belt pockets because people buying the wrong sized harness cant make the waist belt fit.

hehe your more handy than me. I struggle to sew the buttons on my shirt.

The hipbelt are not interchangeable and guys buying large packs were running out of adjustment.. yes, they could have made the pockets even smaller, but I imagine in the end they got the flick in favour of less mesh on the stretchy pockets
