TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Neoair sliding issue

Postby under10kg » Wed 14 Mar, 2018 8:13 am

I got a new Neoair mattress for my just completed solo western arthurs trip.
One issue I had was the mattress loved to slide around in my tarp tent.
This could lead to the sleeping bag touching the tent sides.
Is some silicon dots on the mattress the best option to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance.

I use a small square of this - https://www.bigw.com.au/product/sperlin ... p/4581796/

I sits underneath my xlite or xtherm just under the hips. It weighs about 30g. It works well, probably not as well as silicone dots but I’d rather not have either stuck to my floor or mats.

The Neoair slides around on silicone impregnated floors. The standard solution is to put dots of silicone on the floor, not the pad.

One alternative is to use a thin foam pad underneath. Another is to use a tent with a polyurethane coated floor.

I found that by striping or dotting the floor worked with some mats but not that well with others. The solution was to also add some thin silicone stripes to the bottom of the mat.
However the grip liner Zapruda posted works very well too.
There are several types, some thinner/lighter than others.
KMart and $2 shops also sell them.

I painted the whole floor of my Tarptents with diluted silicon - no worries of sliding since I did this.
