TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Has anybody had a chance to try one of these warmer down hoodies yet?
Anybody know the weight of an XXL? Or the weight of down fill?
The suit liner is on sale again too for those who need something without a collar for better layering

I doubt it very much John. Even a womens 24 won't fit my shoulders ROFL
I tried them actually, Peter had a few at Wondonga as dead old stock; about the same warmth as my UL Uniqlo but heavier because of the cheaper down fill and I already have a warm one with 500FP down in it; I'm looking for something a little lighter and warmer

On the standard Parka the down is/was rated as 650 power fill by European standards which apparently "equates to 700 in the US equivalent speak or what they speak in the US. I got this from another forum I believe. The new one I don't know,-is it bulkier material and/or higher down fill/better loft? I agree, both are Uniqlos are lighter and better down fill rated. Got to sneak the scale in Hoppers C Uniqlo!!

Well I do have a small problem getting to Werribee plaza at the moment or I'd go take a look, and visit Rays for the total clearance at the same time

I've got two of the UL jackets. Same size L but one feels a bit larger so can double up.

Shoulda got a parka with the hood. May eventually get a women's one for the extra length over my bum.

I've often admired the Uniqlo jackets but have been turned off by the current incarnation, as they no longer have a baffle behind the zipper. To my mind that is a design flaw in this type of jacket. I'm kinda kicking myself for not buying one of the Macpac UL down jackets over Xmas, when they were on sale for $95. At that price they definitely out compete Uniqlo IMHO. But really I'm hanging out for a Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer. Narrowly missed out on getting one from Massdrop last year when they were a little over $200 shipped.

I find trying to double up a parka with another sleeved puffy is restricting for the arms. For that reason I double up with a down vest under the parka. This is usually my Uniqlo down vest with a Mont Bell or Uniqlo jaket. I plan eventually (once I find them on sale) to get a Mont Bell Plasma 1000 vest - about 90 grams compared to the Uniqlo at 170g.

Well at least I got a response

Postby Moondog55 » Mon 30 Apr, 2018 3:52 pm

Hello Ted,

Thank you for getting in touch with us here at UNIQLO Australia.

We're sorry that you feel there is not enough information provided in the item description of the MEN Seamless Down Parka.

Unfortunately the only confirmed information we have for this product is that the Fill Power is 640 and that it is 90% Down and 10% Small Feathers. This is also the same for our Ultra Light Down products.

Therefore, the weight and warmth of the Seamless Down would be the same as the Ultra Light down.

We are unable to provide the weight of the this product as this does vary between each size and product, and is unfortunately not information that is recorded.

I guess I'll have to check it out when I'm in Melbourne on Saturday and take my scales in with me, that is if the City store has an XXL in stock

Well I decided against the Uniqlo even without looking at it. I'll use a synthetic again for this winter and use the money I didn't spend at Uniqlo on a Mont Icicle

Comparitive Weights

Postby johnrs » Mon 07 May, 2018 2:26 pm

Folks
We have a family selection of down jackets
and over the weekend I compared the Uniglo and Snowgum models.

The Snowgum model is more robustly constructed with more attractive fabric and more detailing.
The hood is zip off, with out hood it weighed 310 gms and 350 gms with hood.
The hood has an easily used closure and could be worn separately as a down cap.
$100 from here, male patterns also available.
https://scoutshop.com.au/products/snowg ... xon_id=181

By comparison the Uniglo jacket is more spartan with simpler construction and lighter cheaper looking materials.
My jacket without hood weighed 270 gms.

The Snowgum jacket has marginally more loft and looks more functional and durable to me.
So that's my thoughts on these

We were in Melbourne so I checked out those parkas Not a patch on the quality of the one I bought a few seasons ago and not worth a second look.
Comparing hoodies in the same weight class after shopping the Patagonia is still the standard where warmth for weight is the criteria, the Macpac and Snowgum are OK and better than the current Uniqlo

Macpac currently has the Uber Light down jacket on clearance again at $85 in limited colours.
I've given up waiting for a sale on the Ghost Whisperer, and could resist no longer; bought one of the Macpac jackets today.

The Halo down is back on sale as well, not the hoodie though... I'm going to resist the temptation and hope to find the Ghost Whisperer at a decent price somewhere. It's listed at $240 on Wiggle but currently out of stock, not sure if this is a marketing ploy or the actual price when it comes back in.
