TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Well here is my Hiking Pack. This pack lives in my car and I just have to add water and food before I head out.

Firstly the pack itself, a Roman Bags Bowen 30 litre day pack with two main compartments.

Cps what do you use the handwarmers for (dont say to warm you hands  ) because from anecdotal experience they have been used to warm up gas cannisters in extreme cold conditions.

Cps thats a really good standing day walk pack ,what do you add on extended walks and what breed of pack do you favour .
Also I would respectfully recommend a couple of broad elasticated roller bandages for ankle sprain treatment or in the very remote chance, snake bite

Hi,

The hand warmers I have only used to warm my hands so far, I don't use a gas stove for hiking. I have actually had more use from the warmers at work (I'm a policeman-officer).

I haven't done any extended hikes as yet, we have a 7 yr old and we camp out of the back of the car, for that I carry my gear in an old ALICE pack, I'm not sure how that would be for an extended hike.

Yes I agree with the bandages, I have managed to squeeze 2 into the first aid kit. Thanks.

I also have a lightweight summer kit which is a bumbag. I'll put that up soon for perusal. I'm a gear freak.

I might qualify for that too. No photos but here's my daypack list.

Depending on season/location daypack is either a Berghaus Dart 30 (summer) or Kathmandhu Cane Toad (winter in Sydney or Tassie in any season). I’ve owned both of these for many years.

Gear is contained in various roll-top dry bags or stuff sacks as needed:

Food for the day plus spare “emergency food” (cold stuff only - don’t bother with stove on day trips)
Small pack cover
Lightweight wet weather jacket (Rainbird “breathable” or similar “Karrimor” brand)
Lightweight wet weather overpants (Rainbird “breathable” or “Team” brand)
Lightweight poncho ($2 shop model)
Featherweight tarp ($2 shop model)
Lightweight compact umbrella (Sea to Summit)
Lightweight micro fleece thermal top (heavier one in winter/Tassie)
Short sleeved polypropylene thermal base layer top
100gsm thermal beanie (winter or Tassie only)
Polypropylene gloves (winter or Tassie only)
Sun hat (Columbia or similar)
Sunglasses
2 x 1 litre Nalgene water bottles
Coghlans Iodine tablets
Small pack towel
Speedos
Insect repellant
Antibacterial hand gel
Small amount of first aid & medical gear (snake bite bandage, roller bandage, triangular bandages, CPR face shield, painkillers, antihistamines, anti-diarrhea tablets, antiseptic cream, paw paw ointment, salt for leeches, lip balm, sunscreen
Compact space blanket
Waterproof matches
15 metres 4mm climbing accessory cord (for pack hauling, scrambling – not used to date)
Head torch (Princeton Tec Aurora)
Mobile phone
Tiny UHF radio (Uniden model)
Compact binoculars
Compass (ancient Silva model)
Small multi-tool (Leatherman Micra)
Spare bootlaces
Garmin Etrex Yellow GPS
Relevant topographic map/s
Map case
1 or 2 spare clip lock plastic bags
Guide book/s if/as needed
Canon A700 P&S compact digital camera in small weather-resistant hip pouch
Micro tripod (Ultra Pod)

 ...ah! the horror of leaving the TP behind...I've heard of people forced to use leaves and sticks...but let's not go there...

Yep, had a look at that thread. I've admired the iPood a number of times. As bit of a gear freak I'll probably get one eventually, needed or not. 8) Can then retire the orange trowel to gardening duty.
