Which Water filter do you use.

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Just bought a Sawyer Squeeze - $48 delivered from Amazon 8)

They are now offering inline adaptors for them for $7. So I can either use the squeeze to drink from directly or fill pots/bottles, or I can plumb the filter inline on my bladder system for when I'm on the move. Looks like a great system!

Phillipsart wrote:Sawyer have released a new updated version of the Squeeze filter, they are now supplied with a more durable one litre bladder.

Good luck finding one that posts to Australia, cheaply. I'll just carry the smallest bladder as a backup until one breaks - then I'll upgrade it.

I purchased a Sawyer Squeeze Filter, mine arrived in the post a few weeks ago, its a updated version with a more heavy duty water bladder than the original units.
I also ordered a Evernew 1.5L bladder to use on my filter,
This with the addition of Chlorine Dioxide liquid water treatment.

Its a great system and saves a lot of weight over some of the other systems Ive tried.

I have a Katadyn Mini up for sale in the for sale section if anyone is interested, I also own a Steripen Adventurer Opti, never used I want to sell.

A lot of people rave on about the Steripens, so I went and purchased one as a spur of the moment decision while I was at the Paddy Palin store in Brisbane recently, never used it apart from once at home. Im trying to do away with anything that uses batteries as much as possible.

Mountain Laurel Designs, i think it was 50.00.

I had it sent to my Mail forwarder in the states and got them to repack it into another package I had waiting to be delivered to me, in the end it only cost me a few dollars in freight to my mail forwarder. I did had to wait a couple of weeks before he had stock after I ordered, reading his facebook site last week, he had more in stock, but they could be gone by now.

I did end up getting the adaptor on Amazon for $18.50 for 2 "kits" postage and all (one for me one for my son inlaw).
Filling the bag as I suggested works really well even under gravity.
I have not tried it yet with the bag in my loaded pack at this stage but I can't see why it shouldn't work.

I got that as well. So I can have a quick disconnect system where I can disconnect the mouthpiece, and fit the filter when needed.

They arrived today and they work great.
Very happy with the set up. I was able to fill the hydration bag
from empty while it was squished flat behind everything in my full
pack. I did make sure that the bag had basically no air in it before
I slipped it down the back of the pack. I think no air in the bag will
always help as it's one thing to squeeze water in but you don't want
an air bubble getting compressed in the bag as you go about it.
An air bubble is likely to eject the water when you open your bite valve.

Ive got a Sawyer Squeeze too. Looking to buy a Tornado Tube Adaptor which will allow me to use the clean water bottle to back-flush the filter (dont need the syringe). The typical drink container from a supermarket is no good for this (too fragile) but Ive found that the bottle used for distilled water from the servo is ok.

Just a FYI - the more durable Evernew soft bottles, which are compatible with the Sawyer System, are back in stock from Trail Designs. They sell out fast and can be hard to find.
2L 1.5L 900 ml and 600 ml sizes, plus a drinking tube adaptor, and protection/insulaton bags are available.
Prices range from US$10.80 - $13.80 depending on size
Postage for 2 x 2L ones alone was approx $25 alone (but I had a larger pot and a couple of smaller items so my postage is different), so maybe pool together and make one order?

Cheers
We can learn a lot from crayons. They come in different shapes and colours, but they all have to live in the same box

The Sawyer Point One Squeeze Water Filter kit is available on Amazon from $39.91 .............. About $50.00 shipped to Aus. ....thanks Strider.
It is with the standard bags though....I've had no problems with them so far but time will tell.

The Sawyer Inline Hydration Pack Adapter for Screw On Filter is there for $6.59 postage was about $6.00.
The Camelbak HydroLink Filter Adapter is there for $6.41 postage was about $6.00.

Edited to correct shipping costs.

Thanks for sorting that Strider.....I should have checked further.

Philipsart,
The bits to convert it are fairly cheap. So if yours is Sawyer filter all you need from Amazon is -
The Sawyer Inline Hydration Pack Adapter for Screw On Filter is there for $6.59 postage was about $6.00.

I adapted a these camelback bits to make the quick connect. My Hydration pack isn't a Camelback so it took a bit
of adapting.
The Camelbak HydroLink Filter Adapter is there for $6.41 postage was about $6.00.

Ordered my Camelback quick connect kit 9/4/13 and received it yesterday....about 7 days........can't be sure but it looks
like it would. I had the Sawyer adaptor for some time and I think it took a couple of weeks to get here.

The Sawyer adaptor kit is to connect the Sawyer filter in line with your hydration pack.
The Camelback quick connect is to click in either the inline adadptor for filling or your bite valve for drinking.

Hope that helps.

$15.54 posted if you get this one, which does the job of both listed above.

The only reason I bought the Camelbak one is because I had already ordered the inline adapters and the Camelback version was then cheaper.

P.S. I have a Sawyer Squeeze with the 3 pouches for sale ($45) if anyone is interested.

The amazon link is just the quick disconnect system - not for attaching directly to the filter.
