I can hear the lynch mob forming from here......you'll just have to get in line & wait your turn. :D

Just throwing up an alternative...for those who enjoy a remote camps(outside N.P's), open fires(when allowed),
a flickering star filled sky & good tucker.
I was just feeling a little jaded of the shop bought dried &*$% we normally take with us, thus needed to experiment. :wink:
I've shown you the door....its up to you to open it. :idea:

I'm thinking...sheperds pie, quiche, toad in the whole, macaroni cheese, bread, laksa, thai green curry......your imagination is the only limitation.

1st attempt at bread.....in the bush.....to eager to let it rise to full height. Tasted good though ! :roll:

Most of my walks are overnighters, so I don't mind the extra weight.

i make bread, but in the damper twist means: dough around a green stick held over the embers.

Going by the manufacturers stamp, it's not Dutch, it is Japanese :mrgreen:

I do like to roast/bake things, but never when I am on a hike. I always take my Bedourie spun metal camp oven when I go car camping though. I love it!

A couple of weeks ago some friends and I went to Sundown NP. We made a chocolate self-saucing pudding in a six litre billy!

Come to think of it, the billy is quite light and wouldn't make a bad little oven for hiking...the hardest part is controlling the heat due to the thinness of the metal. But as I have found with my Bedourie, it is better to have less heat and cook longer, than lots of direct heat, which tends to burn things.

Just flown back from work on a weeks R&R....my wife & child are overseas and are due back on thursday.
Perrrrfect time for a short over-nighter....with food, bushwalking & fishing on the menu.
A new gorge was explored, no fish were caught but the food turned out pretty good. :wink:

Baby dutch in action again......bacon, vintage cheese & onion quiche.

Titanium grill got its first workout.....T bone with dried herb rub (cracked pepper,garlic, lemonthyme, rosemary).
Sorry no 'after' photo....got carried away devouring the juicy, smokey meat. :roll:

In the morning, a cup o' tea, sesame & poppy seed rolls cut in half & toasted on the remaining coals,
with a scraping of butter & roses lime marmalade....very civilized.
Beats cup o noodles anyday. :lol:

MMmm yum
I've just started to do flat breads.
they worked out OK cooked in the lid/frying pan of the trangia.
I put all dry ingredients together then just add a bit of water and oil mix dump in my plastic bowl cover and let it rise (at morning tea) then lunch stop cook up the flat breads with lots of oil and salt
Rehydrated Hommus dip and eat it up with a bit of sliced cucumber or something.

Ofuros - where did the you get the titanium grill from please?
I've got a small stainless steel grilliput one that while small, it's too heavy for packpacking - fine for a picnic with it's collapsible little fire pit. A lightweight ti one would be be great for hiking, especially if it folded up small. I know I could bodgy up something with bits of wire but neat is better.

Bedourie ovens are great, they're stainless steel, and no chance of cracking if accidently dropped like a cast iron camp oven, or if someone puts cold water in them
I've see the little baby dutch ovens, not bought one yet as I was unsure if I'd use a small one car camping, but after seeing yours I am tempted. Snow peak make beautiful quality items.

Great looking meals. i hope you did the right thing by them and brought along some decent wine!

Baby Dutch, and grill ordered, and some ti peg supports. I've spent some happy moments reading various articles on campfire baking.
