First outing for this little vargo fire box grill, my lightweight companion while chasing trout in northern NSW's valley's & gorges.
For those who enjoy the lure of the flame.........
All ingredients easily prepared before embarking on the adventure.

Entrée...Pork satay

Main.....Rainbow trout thai style.

That was the end of the delicious fresh produce, then it was back to the old standby's.... cup o' noodles.

Bon Appeite,

Looks lovely. Mouth watering, in fact.

Have you thought about a home made light weight grill (I posted something in MYO gear a while ago about one of these), and it would suit your use beautifully. You can make it to suit the size of the trout you catch. The one posted is designed to fit the standard 55-60cm trout we catch in NZ. In Oz, I'd make it a bit smaller.....!

Thanks andrewa,
I'll check out the archives & take a look.
Just giving this system a run as a alternative from building
a rock ring.... this leaves no trace, only footprints.

I've heard the rumours about NZ.....a lifetime of valleys & ridges to explore. 8-)
Planning a trip there soon.....

Cheers

Hi there - great meals. There are definitely some posts about lightweight titanium grills here. i did a bit of reseach after soeone posted a pic of their one. I didn't realise andrewa had a MYOG one too. I've got a titanium one and it seems to be good, haven't had the chance to actually grill a fish on it yet though....:(

Thanks onestepmore,
When bushwalking in National Parks I normally use gas or liquid fueled stoves, but outside of
those areas... its open slather. ;-)
That trout in a foil pouch turned out very scrummie. 8-)

These are ones I found a while ago, I think someone had a pic that featured this grill with a very tasty looking fish on it

More shenanigans over the weekend with the little vargo grill......down at the chilly willy Boonoo Boonoo & Bald Rock N.P. (NSW)

Baked apple...spiced with cinnamon sugar, cloves & sultanas.
Lumpy Vanilla custard...powdered milk, custard powder & half a vanilla pod & seeds.

I'll cut the apple in half next time to cut down on time spent stoking & maybe wait a bit longer for the custard to thicken up.
Smelled so good I couldn't help myself. Mmmmm. Easy peasy.
Only weighty item was the apple itself.

...and to go with my dahl or curry, some crispy, crunchy papadums.
Lightweight & adds variety to your meals. They puff up great on a gas stove too.

I love a man who cooks

How do you cook a pappadum over a gas canister stove - just wave it through the flame?

Spot on, onestepmore,
Just keep it moving over the flame, they curl & puff up almost instantly.
You'll find them on the shelves in the asian aisle, in your local supermarket.
Plain, garlic & curry flavours.

Oh yeah, thanks for the tip.

They're a staple in our house, can't have a curry without them (we do them in the microwave - they puff up really well)! I like the one with big pepper pieces in it.I just never thought to take them bushwalking.....would have to pack against something flat so they don't break
Hmm, curry....coconut sprinkled on top and Patak's hot mango pickle as an accompaniment should travel OK. Pity cucumber and banana doesn't, lol. Could dehydrate yougurt.
