Food drops: Favourite luxury/heavy foods

Postby Human » Mon 06 Jul, 2015 10:28 am

Hello all.
What are some of your favourite luxury (heavy) foods you like to put in your food drops to gorge yourself on after a week of the same old nuts, seeds and dehydrated fruit/vegetables?

To kick it off here is my list:
  • Canned soup
  • Can of fish
  • Orange Juice
  • Canned fruit

And if I'm keen, I just might add:
  • Jar of olives
  • Bag of chips
  • Up and go
  • Jar of gherkins

I would be interested to see what others can't wait to sink their teeth into. (Apologies if this has already been answered before)

Fresh fruit, fresh greens, bread, camembert and smoked salmon if the weather permits. Crisps (Red Rock Lime and Black Pepper). Tim Tams are better straight out of the fridge so I don't take them walking.
Not that I've done much that required food drops, but I often have items like this in the car to be savoured upon return from a walk.

In the days when we had campfires:

Fresh oranges and chocolate cake mix. Cut the top off the orange, eat the inside, pour in choc cake mix, bake in foil in the coals.

Fresh bananas, slit to insert chocolate and marshmallows, cook in foil in the coals.

Pizza - I think we had the ingredients for the dough, + veggies and salami

Steak, fresh eggs, bacon, tomatoes :D Came when a farmer friend brought our food drop to Kiandra on our way through - and another time at Falls Creek.

Thanks for all the great ideas guys.

Although fresh food wont survive in my next cache, I love the cake mix + hollowed out orange idea. Cant wait to find an excuse to try it out.

Yes, a pie in a can. You have to boil them for some time but they are nice and pie-like, crispy pastry etc. (as I recall, haven't had one for many years). Might as well also have a good serve of deb (& pumpkin/beans/carrots).

There are some nice (enough) vac sealed meats, pre-cooked lamb shanks eg. that iv'e tried as well. Fatty and salty recharge to face more days of the healthy stuff.

The Fry Bentos pies are actually really good!
We can learn a lot from crayons. They come in different shapes and colours, but they all have to live in the same box

The are a bit of an old-school food group Onestep but I have fond memories, as I recall they were ok dry-heated Corvus, maybe they cook through well enough on top of a boiling pan (++ gas)
