Edible bugs/ insects. Have you ? Would you ?

Hello,
Having this year drastically reduced how much beef, pork and lamb we eat in our household, I've gone looking for other sources of protein for our bushwalking meals and snacks. Of course there's chicken, turkey, roo, camel, fish, eggs, flaxseed, chia etc etc but then, recalling my (brief) bug eating days in siberut island in the 90s, and a memory from my environmental science studies, I started looking for insects to eat and I stumbled upon this website

 http://www.ediblebugshop.com.au/g/12039 ... nment.html

Has anyone in this forum consumed any of these products? The trail mix? The cricket powder?

I'm thinking of dipping my toe back into eating insects. Not cheap - would pack a punch to our grocery coin purse. Any feedback from this community?

Bon appetite

I've not tried this, but according to this post: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3108&p=34714&hilit=march+flies#p34714
...some guys tried squeezing liquid out of march flies when water was hard to come by. Apparently it tasted rather unpleasant. You can even follow the link a couple of posts further down, in order to see photos of it.

Insects can carry infective agents and toxins too, so beware and treat accordingly.

Tried various insect snacks while spending time in Thailand but none since coming back home. Some are delicious... some have me scrunching up my face. ;)
No help with the products mentioned in your post.

If you can stomach roast leeches, I'm sure there are places in the bush where your efforts would be most welcome.

Leeches don't have much meat, just look at them when 'deflated'.

I suspect most of us have swallowed a fly or two out walking. Hopefully most have not swallowed a spider as antidote !

Leaches would be a form of blood sausage.

Then be mindful of the type of blood contained. LOL

there are a few startups trying to produce cricket flour, so that might be worth looking into.
