Postby Bret Critchley 1959 » Sun 19 Mar, 2017 8:25 pm

As a Boy Scout 40 years ago I remember the Vesta range of meals which were great
In particular there was one called Chicken Supreme
Does anyone know if they are still around

I believe they are long gone. I also ate many over the years along with Farmhouse Stew etc that came in somewhat larger packets.

There was one called Marva too. Our TL used to reckon it was marvelous!

Arrr yes - Vesta dehydrated meals - was a staple for me as a bushwalking food/meal. I loved the Paella - that didn't actually taste anything remotely like Paella.

What were all the flavours available?
Prawn Paella
Chicken Supreme
Beef Curry
Chilli Con Carne?

Others?

I think the packaging and meals available in Australia were slightly different to UK and USA.

I remember the first time I did the OT with my father, we alternated between the Chicken Supreme and the Prawn Paella every night. They both tasted great for the first few nights. But after a while, I found that they both started tasting more and more the same, until eventually I could hardly tell which I was eating.

I remember one called Pork Italienne. The Vestas were staples in the mid to late 70s for me, along with savoury rice with the sachet of mainly MSG I think. I don't think I want to go back.
