Ziplock alternatives

Postby Neo » Sat 02 Sep, 2017 7:49 am

Hi
Got tired of using ziplocks pretty quickly now I'm doing regular trips. Some can be reused and washed but they are easily damaged so then become rubbish.

Can anyone suggest a reasonably light alternative that is mostly leak-proof?

I have a plastic honey jar so can only think of using a few of those.

It's for food such as couscous and dehydrated veg/meals... and powderef stuff.

I bundle my food in a dry sack or mesh sack for packing.

Cheers

Not the answer you are looking for but the Good Guys sell plastic bags that are boil-proof, so handy when making your own meals that need reheating/cooking. The ziplocks are not boil-proof. I reuse ziplocks as rubbish bags instead of bringing a plastic bag. I also have some containers I use for shorter walks to carry fresh eggs and sandwiches.

If you find a commercial packaging place you might be able to find extra thick zip lock bags, I get some that are 250 or 300 microns thick which is 5-6x the thickness of a standard zip lock, and they come with double sealing bar things. Barely a difference in weight, but much more sturdy. They also have very convenient sizes, but you might have to buy 50 or 100 at a time !

Ta. Usually I have one pot to boil/cook and have only added water to a zip for absorption before eating. Sometimes take a mini frypan too.
Probably won't ever boil plastic.
Yeah me too, there's always a bag that is then good as a rubbish bag like flatbread ones.
Cheers

Hmm will keep an eye open for those heavy ziplocks. Would be good for a track-mix and roll it up to go in the belt pockets. If a bulk buy then share them around. Cheers

If anyone ever wants to bulk buy, I'll go grab some. I've been meaning to for personal use anyway !

Maybe put a post in the sale section with details of what you need ie cost and self addressed envelope, when you get some.
