Other than the supermarket prefilled pepper mills does anyone have a recommendation for a small, or tiny pepper mill that I can take hiking?

Thanks Ofuros - I appreciate the research - I have ordered the one on drifta’s site - they always seem to have quality products
Cheers

I would take whole peppercorns and find a good couple of rocks to grind them on .
I have a granite stone at home with a pestle, works very well ,obviously too heavy for a trail kitchen , but natural rocks work just as well

After seeing this post, I began reading about how long ground pepper stays fresh for.
- Sealed in a container, there are claims of between 4 months and 2 years
- Freshly ground and stored openly, some people claim it starts to lose its flavour in a couple of days
- The coarser the grind, the longer it stays fresh
Just as an alternative to a pepper grinder or bashing them with rocks, you can pre-grind the pepper, and especially coarsely ground, and you will get much the same result for the duration of a shorter hike.

When you have a pub meal, grab a couple of the small pepper packets, it's ground, not powder, and one is enough for each meal. Try it - a treat in the bush

Grab some salt sachets while you're at it. Enough for a meal, very light, little rubbish to cart out. Check the pepper versions, I've come across a powdered version once or twice. Still provides pepper but not as nice.
