insant fried rice

Just tied out a new Supermarket product which only needs boiling water (regulars to this site will know my addiction to BW) this product retails at $2.16 and is a generous serve for one, rice and three flavour sachets so you can monitor your flavours and it does reconstitute in around 8 mins with just boiling water .
I noticed they had three flavour choices on my Coles shelf and I definatly will reccomend it over the" "rice bowl or the Contiwhatever varaties "but I suspect one feed per day of this new product would be enough over a week.
It is in the Asian section and in a packet called INSTANT RICE the one I bought is in a red packet /box and it is packed for mitani products http://www.mitani.com.au
For the price its OK and with judcious use of the supplied flavour sachets I suspect for the money it could be a good BW lightweight choice.

Rice revisited - rice good flavours iffy ,getting internal feedback from one of the flavour sachets (suspect the oil soy)so caveat emptor nthat eh!!

the mi goreng noodles are best for internal feedback. They taste so good, yet are soooo bad for your insides

dont panic it was only a flavour repeat which did not necessitate a quick trip to the bog so use with confidence

I checked 'em out when I was in the supermarket. They are in a tub like achinese takeaway tub. Fairly lightweight, but bulky. The tub seems to me that it would be fragile in a crammed pack, and also would be bulky for the rubbish bag.
Do you think transferring them into a plastic bag for transport so you can put in your pot / bowl would work?

I buy the instant noodles that come in the same cup. We always transfer all pre-packaged food to resealable plastic lunch bags to reduce bulk and rubbish - especially biscuits, nuts, dehydrated fruit and the like. This is ok if you intend to eat the food in the next day or so. I'd think carefully before repackaging some food on long walks. But works for noodles so why not for instant rice!

Cool! I suppose doing that makes sense for a lot of foods, variouis instant noodle packs in foam cups which would normally be disgusting for the environment, etc...

I found these last week - and thought I was on to something new lol

Tried the beef one - a tad salty - but considering it only needed boiling water its actually quite tolerable.

The rice is not like other rice I have seen. But it is quick and could fill the spot on a cold arvo.

Looking for some easy to cook tucker, i have just found on special for a couple of dollars, Uncle Ben's Express Rice. For not many sheckles it was worth a try. There were only 3 flavours there at the time (i dont shop much) - Savoury Chicken Flavour; Egg Fried Rice and Plain Long Grain. The directions say to boil 2 tablespoons (30ml) water, add the contents and simmer for 3 minutes. I feel that a bit more water is needed but it cooked up nice in the 3 mins. I just tried the Chicken one and found it very nice. Plenty in it for one or as a side for 2 people. They come in 250gm plastic squishy type bags which seem to be able to take quite a bit of beating around.

I'll try the others in the next day or so.
