Freezer Bag & Zip Lock Bag Cooking

Postby Cheesypigs » Thu 07 Feb, 2008 10:08 am

One tip I got from the freezer bag cooking site that works is put half a cup of dried couscous in a ziplock bag. To prepare add just over a half cup od boiling water, seal the bag and wrap it in a jumper or similar. In five minutes it has absorbed the water and is ready to eat, giving you time to heat a protein source to add. I have had a lot of luck with a small tin of Braised steak and onions mixed through. I have been meaning to try adding the meat at the early stage and seeing if the boiling water will heat the meat, but haven't got around to it yet.

I did a similar thing on my last walk, except in the bag with the cous cous went some stock powder and some diced fried vegetables (capsicum, mushrooms, carrots, etc). Then, as you say, you only need to add boiling water, and soak for a few minutes.

This makes a reasonably tasty meal all on its own, or an excellent side dish. So simple to prepare.

Yes coucous, dried tomato, cooked pine nuts, galic power, salt and use a freezer bag. I add a pesto sause at the end. Best thing about freezer bag cooking is the saving of gas and no washing up the billy. Just take the dirty bag out.
