Calculator: HP-41CX PC & iPhone emulator

Sometimes you need something familiar when number crunching and if you are 'old school' then this is for you...

My inner Geekness revealed... :lol:

I got my 41C (Coconut) in '85 and then got it refirb'ed to a CX in '89 when HP PPC Calc division was based in Melbourne. The HP wand has disappeared and the card readers drive wheel has since perished, yet you can still get replacements! :roll:

I use this 41 pc app on the lappy all the time, as the real 41 lives mainly in it's piggy skin case...

Windows HP-41CX emulator by 'Warren Furlow' works on all PC platforms as a portable:

PS: I have 2x as new 48GX's in a drawer ready to be sold off if anyone ever needs one again... ;)

Very retro...

γ = arctan [tan (λ - λ0) × sin φ]

Find that app on your smartphone and forget about clicking with the mouse.
Just move it!

Yeah that's fine in algebraic but this is 'Reverse Polish Notation' territory buddy!

Hence...

Code: Select all
γ = arctan [tan (λ - λ0) × sin φ]

...now, to plug this into the HP goes like this...

φ ENTER sin
λ ENTER λ0
-
tan
x
SHIFT arctan

Thanks for this. I don't know how many times I've been out bush walking and thought to myself 'Gee, I wish I had a calculator with me!'
Sometimes, I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

Ha...you really are a geek. Lets try some values in the equation just to be sure your order of operations are correct:

γ = arctan [tan (λ - λ0) × sin φ]

where
λ = 144.946014°
λ0 = 147°
φ = -37.815018°

The very reason why I posted this! My maths is ok for map skills but it's just my parenthetic that suffers these days... :wink:

You got it. Nice little app.
Code: Select all

 Meridian := 3 + ( Trunc( Longitude / 6 ) * 6 ) ;
 result := RadToDeg( arctan ( tan( DegToRad( Longitude - Meridian ) ) * sin( DegToRad( Latitude ) ) ) );

LOL, nice thread. I still use my HP41CX and the go41c android app. For the real geeks out there, I've got the PPC ROM and the CCD Modules. Got a spare/backup HP41CV somewhere.
