Odd. When I first opened this thread, all photos loaded normally. an hour or two later revisiting this thread, the first two photos disappeared. I think I'll clear my browser cache and double check.
Just move it!

I don't think that the second photo (Murchison Dawn) has been fixed/re-uploaded as yet. Not sure whose that is, but I'm sure Matt will sort it if possible.

The forum seems to be doing some pretty shocking compression for all of this months landscape photo comp. Epic banding of the skies and some images are really flat in a way that previous months and the other comps are not. Image #1 does not have the issue though.

I have been advised Matt is awaiting a reply from the entrant in order to obtain the image that is missing.

Interesting re what is said about the compression, I will look at this & discuss with Matt.

Not sure about the compression issue. It might be the viewer screen.
I can only just make out banding in 2 of them - and that is being very finicky.
I presume the "flat" refers to a couple of them which might benefit from some more contrast/colour saturation.

If the submitted images are 2000px long edge, then resized to 800px for display (Submission #1 seems to be displaying at 720px long edge), there will be all sorts of effects to the resulting image, especially if the submitted JPEG wasn't at maximum quality.

Forum image toolkits like GD and Imagemagick default to 75% quality (from memory)

So really, you are taking your RAW or JPG from your camera, editing it (losing a bit here), saving as a JPEG (losing a bit here) and uploading, where the forum resizes (loses a bit here) and recompresses as JPEG again (losing the most).

If you have left out a colour profile from the JPEG, or used one other than sRGB, then there may be additional colour shifts and even artifacts as people's browses try to interpolate data.

Sorry for the long delay - Got the second image up now. Unfortunately (and I am not sure why) but these images did not upload so I had to chase up the original files. and add them manually.
If anyone want to change their votes - please PM me and I will work out how to do that :)

Thanks and sorry for the hassle

Matt :)

Hmm, just looked at the photos on IE instead of chrome and they were fine. Weird because #1 and #2 and all the other competitions were fine on chrome but the rest of the photos from this comp looked like they were in 256 colour or not much better.

I don't think it matters if I reveal given the votes, my vote went for #1.

The title is ironic, it was the most wonderfully calm evening at Arthur River, not a breath of wind, a full moon and the quietest of seas. I took 20-odd 15 second exposures and this exposure caught the movement I wanted. I wandered around for 4 hours on this most peaceful of nights. We are so lucky.

Thanks SBS. Now I understand, and for what it's worth I very much like the image.
Looking at the rocks more closely now I recognise where it is - the Arthur has been a favourite spot for years, though can't remember too many calm days!
As you say, we are so lucky to have access to such a wonderful place.

Haha I saw that too Doogs! What a finicky photo it is.

Cheers SBS, it was one of those sunsets that got me really excited, I knew it was a special sunset. This photo doesn't do it justice, it was beautiful!
