Panasonic LX100

Postby cjhfield » Sat 11 Oct, 2014 11:24 am

This soon to be released model has been mentioned in a couple of threads mainly as a competitor to the popular Sony RX100. I think it is interesting enough to have its own thread with its name in the title. IMHO it's quite a significant camera.

I have a mark 1 version of the RX100 but the LX100 looks a step up in a number of important ways. It has a micro 4/3 sensor ie much bigger. The control of the camera looks better with intuitive dials. It has better control of depth of field with its big sensor and big aperture. It has a viewfinder which my rx100 lacks but the latest model has.

On the downside it is larger and significantly more expensive to the earlier Sony ( similar price to the latest version though).

There is a review here:

This is a pretty good comparison with the RX100:

For those looking for SLR quality but without the weight it looks pretty good. The Sony is still good if you want the ultimate in portability but if the extra 100g doesn't make you sweat this new camera is probably the best out there. If I was thinking of buying the latest RX100 I would have a good look at this first.
