My kids enjoyed snowball fights up there on Sunday. They even climbed up Marions Lookout. No views to be had anywhere, though. I was hoping to pose for a photo in front of the webcam, but we were about 10 minutes too late getting back to the car park.

A cold blast hitting Tasmania at the moment.
Snow has been falling at Cradle Valley and Great Lake area for the past 5 hours.
Hopefully white tomorrow.

Edit.
Snow didn’t settle around Cradle Valley, unable to see Cradle on the web cam due to cloud.
Edit.
Snow settled on Cradle Mountain above the Face Track.

Next Saturday is forecast for up to 8mm, snow above 900m. Sunday windy up to 25mm, snow above 1000m and then possibly clearing.

I think I could be in luck a have a great walk surrounded by snowy peaks but are there any old hands out there prepared to make a prediction on track conditions?

I don't know the area so don't know if the snow will even settle on the track but I could potentially be post holing 20+cm of snow. Definitely sounds like semi-blizzard conditions on the Sunday.

Appreciate any feedback.

Not very pleasant.
If it clears, the snow will disappear quickly. If it doesn't clear, you're in for an interesting walk. You doing the Overland or just mucking about around Cradle?

Hi NNW, I'm on the OLT Saturday around Lunchtime and getting picked up at Lake St Clair on the Friday, mid-afternoon.
My pack with food but no water or cannister is already 11kg so I''d like to avoid taking an extra trekking pole. Also I really hate rain pants and use gaiters and a rain skirt instead. So I'd rather not take them either. At this stage only Sunday looks like a shocker, the other days are looking nice or OK.

Well, you should get to Waterfall OK on Saturday unless it goes full blizzard, but might want to reconsider if you're planning on climbing either Cradle or Barn. Waterfall to Windermere is short so if that's all you're doing Sunday it won't be too bad.

A question for the Taswegians - when they say "4WD only", do they typically let AWD vehicles proceed as well or do they mean high clearance 4x4s only? Will be travelling around the apple isle next month in a RAV4.

The problem is mainly grip, rather than clearance. Wouldn't hurt to have chains as well, just in case, although extended closures for snow are rare.

I doubt all the closure points are manned. Mostly they'd just put up signs and leave people to decide whether to go or not. But driving on a closed road does create interesting issues if there's an accident.

Yes, they typically do.
I just checked with Tas Police to make sure AWDs are still legit for such road alerts. They definitely are.
The only instance I can think of that might be different is post-flood damage on unsealed roads that would require the clearance nnw mentioned. Then it probably wouldn't be a matter of what's allowed, but what's sensible in the particular circumstances.
