Road conditions to Cradle

Postby Chris » Wed 27 Aug, 2008 8:46 pm

Thinking of a quick day trip to Cradle tomorrow (Thursday) . Has anyone been in over the last few days? Any ice on the road?
Weather conditions look fantastic.

I was there a week ago. The roads were perfect- you should be fine today, if you haven't left yet and get this!

Thanks CP, we had left, the road conditions were perfect and we had a fantastic day!
Only had time to walk over to Wombat Tarn, but delayed leaving Waldheim area by first a black wombat and then a mother and baby. Will post some photos later. This was my first visit beyond the transit centre for prob 7 years; last time was Anzac Day, and the fagus was wonderful. Did go in as far as the transit centre 18 months ago and shocked by intensity of traffic, commercialisation etc. We bought over-priced and not very good sandwiches there and retreated to Black Bog to eat them and wander. Most of this was mercifully as we remembered it from bush camps years ago.
Even the transit centre wasn't as bad yesterday as in my memory, though didn't actually go in. Far fewer cars and shuttle-buses no doubt helped (I had remembered them as being all purple, but they're a bit more subtle than that).
(Wouldn't have asked about the roads except for my chronically worrying husband!)
I'm still on a high from the walk!
