Overnight hikes around cradle mountain

Postby Cat » Mon 09 Mar, 2015 2:30 pm

Hi everyone, my partner and I are coming to Tassie around Easter and would love to do an overnight hike around the cradle mountain area. We are not looking for anything too lengthy and would be happy with a 3 - 4 hr walk each day so we have time to sit back and enjoy our surrounds. Does anyone have any recommendations for what we should do?

Dove lake carpark into Scott Kilvert is about 3 hours. It's a nice spot, but not the most scenic place/walk in.

If you can walk a bit further than 3-4 hours, perhaps walk up from Dove Lake to Crater Lake, Kitchen Hut, and then across the face track, then around to Scott Kilvert. Much longer walk, but more scenic - and allows a summit climb of Cradle of you are feeling energetic.

Or into Watefall with side trips up Cradle and Barn Bluff, making a loop with the Horse & Face tracks.

Barn Bluff is a great one to climb and well worth the extra time I reckon. The views to the south are fantastic
