Tent platforms on the overland track

Postby Demard » Wed 27 Sep, 2017 8:17 pm

Im looking at buying a geertop tent that uses walking poles to hold it up along with guy ropes. I was wondering if anyone has used or seen this type of tent on the overland track tent platforms and if there's any issue with the poles holding in place

Pitchibg non-freestanding shelters is more fiddly on platforms, but certainly possible. Go to Bunnings and get a packet of cup hooks to attach your guylines to the platforms.

I have also found ocky straps are extremely helpful for setting up my non freestanding tent on platforms.

I did the Overland Track in March this year in a Tarptent Notch. I can confidently say you won’t have a problem. Parks have gone through and updated all the fixing points on the platforms with chains and hooks. Fully adjustable and the majority of the old style clips and cables are still there along with nails in the sides of the boards. You won’t have any issues, enjoy!

Easy and lightweight way to setup a tarptent on a timber platform. Have used these myself many times on the OLT.
