darn tough socks & socks addict website

Postby Tortoise » Wed 01 Oct, 2014 7:01 am

I've decided to take the plunge and get some darn tough socks. socksaddict.com looks the best at the moment, with some on sale and free international shipping if I get a few pairs.

But when I go to pay, Kaspersky says it's not secure. Apparently a couple of AV software companies say that, despite their assurances of encryption. Has anyone had any problems with their site?

What is the exact message? Sometimes it is as simple as a cerificate expiring.
I have bought from them in the past with no issues.
And he sees the vision splendid of the sunlit plains extended,
And at night the wondrous glory of the everlasting stars.

It's just that the padlock in the address line disappears and is replaced by a warning '!'.

Looks like they are not using encryption for the main site. I pay for things like this via paypal, so don't care what the shop does.

If I go to their checkout, chrome doesn't complain.

We are an Australian seller of DarnTough socks for our primary market of ADF and Police Forces. If you don't mind not having groovy colours, have a look at spearpointtechnology.com
My ex Navy colleague was talking about his DarnToughs just this morning pointing out where they were beginning to wear (on top of some toes). "So how old are they?" I asked. "Oh, bit over 5 years". These are his regular socks too!

You've got the wrong link there. This one works: http://www.spearpointtechnology.com.au/

Bit of an oldish thread but I can't for the life of me find quality socks.

I used to love the explorer brand of wool socks, they were nice and thick and warm and comfy. I wear them at work daily. But they seem to have dropped in quality, I can't get them to last any more. They are wearing out very quickly.

Are these darn tough socks going to last? They have a lifetime warranty, does that mean I return them if they wear through at some stage?
Are they sold in retail outlets in Tassie?

I can find them online but they are going to be $30 a pair, which is fine if they are going to last the distance but if they are just another sock then Im not spending that sort of money for a name.

Thanks for any help. I just need a quality sock that doesn't cost the earth but lasts longer than a few months use ;)

Best socks in the history of the universe no exaggeration

I just received an email advertising 20% off here and am tempted to get a couple more pairs while they are discounted. I own a variety of different types of Darn Tough socks and none have worn out yet, even the very thin running socks I have which have done several hundred k's. They are getting thin but still going strong.

Just a reminder too. I have seen Darn Tough socks in the local supermarket but these are not the same as 'Darn Tough Vermont' socks.

Thanks. Even with the discount, the price from sock addict is the same as getting them from a local online store when you factor in the exchange rate...I am of course assuming sock addict is in USD?

But price aside, if they are that good I didn't mind paying for quality.

I would like to try these socks as well but with the dollar down they look a bit dear. Someone on eBay located in West Ryde, Sydney is selling them for $84 a pair plus postage

I seem to keep seeing "I wear darn Tough socks they are the best ever" but which ones exactly, there seems to be about 50 styles and I am sure not all of them would be the best ever. Which ones in particular are people wearing and finding good in which conditions with what shoe types?

I was wondering the same thing. I notice a lot of the models have calf padding which I guess is a bonus if you wear high boots. I am more interested in socks that have heel and sole cushioning as well as cushioning across the top of the toes.

Any ideas which model meets these needs?

I have four pairs of these which I rotate through daily. Oldest ones are maybe 18 months old and still look brand new.

You should be on a commission

Just lashed out on 5 pair. Got sucked in by the "spend US100 bucks" get free shipping from sock addict.

Looking forward to trying them out.

OK, not so bad then when I looked two days ago on ebay the first hit I got was nearly $90 so I got in the car and drove to MD to get some of their Mid weigh Merinos that were on special. Will try these next, I see they are on the spearpoint site as well for a reasonable price (cheaper than the standard non sale MD price).
Thanks

I know its an old thread but I wanted I wanted to compliment Darn Tough on their service.

I managed to wear a pair out and they had no hesitation in replacing them, postage free :)

Good work Dan. I have a couple of pairs that have lost all their cushioning but no actual holes. Were yours totally trashed?

I believe that, at least for some of the hiking type socks, they offer a "lifetime" guarantee.

I have 5 pairs - 3 calf length 2 knee length, 4 full wool heavy grade (can't remember the actual version ) 1 with a lighter top of foot section.

I wore them every day walking to work this last winter as well as weekends. No bushwalking yet as I didn't get out this winter. Given I have odd shaped feet and tend to wear out socks at a point of the heel/ankle area, these are doing well. 5c piece size of rubbed surface, no holes, no loss of thickness etc. Exceptionally warm and very comfortable.

Highly recommend them, particularly when on sale. Only bought them from Sock Addict so far.

Another alternative.... the kiwi made 70 Mile Bush socks are holding up well, I use the Taihape work/gumboot daily @ work & for weekend walking adventures.

Available here.
