I have 'standard' UK size 8 feet. I saw a custom boot maker in England and they assured me that I was size 8. I can now order boots from them, when I fly in and go to pick them up they will check the fit, adjust if required. They may have to keep them over night for the adjustment. Then they check again .. very seldom do they need a second adjustment. That is for leather boots, they only make them to order. They also make fabric ones and have them on the shelf, no fitting required for my size 8. They are simple to order and they will post fabric ones to me. They will not post leather ones, "no Sir those require fitting".
When I go to a buy shoes here in Australia I have to be very careful about the shoe width ... some are far too narrow. But in the UK ... I am simply the normal width for a size 8, any shoe shop will do.
