The guest speaker at the 2017 Weindorfer Memorial Service was ABC Rural Reporter Rosemary Grant who talked about how the Cradle Mt - Lake St Clair NP region influenced her and developed her passion for Tasmania's wild places. After the service she interviewed many of the attendees about their response to the proposed Cradle Valley development plans. The edited Country Hour program be heard here - http://chirb.it/9C0BCF

Thanks for sharing that CH clip tas-man. I hope the developers take the reserved concerns of those good people foremost into consideration.

There will not be a Weindorfer Memorial Service at Waldheim this year, but bushwalkers are invited to place a flower on Weindorfer's grave if you are visiting Cradle Valley this New Year's Day, January 1st 2018.

I decided to spend New Years Day at Cradle Mountain as I had done for many years, and took a posy of native blooms to place on Weindorfer's grave from Mavis Rowland's garden in Burnie. A wreath of native plants was already in place so it was good to know that others were remembering to day. It was all very quiet compared to past years, but between the rain showers, there was a serenity pervading Waldheim, with the few tourists passing through in their cars making little disturbance. I understand that Kentish Council and Parks are in discussions about celebrating Gustav and Kate Weindorfer's contribution to the Cradle region in a different way and on a different date. Watch this space!

It is now seven years since the last New Year’s Day Weindorfer Memorial Service was held at Waldheim. As I was going to be there on 1st January 2024, I arranged my own one man event. While I was there, I had the place to myself, and space for my own thoughts!

It's good to know the tradition is still remembered tas-man, and maybe even by Parks. I was very pleased to attend the last service on 1st January 2017, the only one I have been able to attend.
