Hey all,

The lower washout was fixed some time ago. I was up that way in November and the road is accessible all the way to Smoko Creek, which is about 1km short of the end of the original road to the Ironstone Mountain (via Chasm Falls, Dell Creek), Mother Cummings Peak (via Smoko Falls) junction.

From here (the end of the accessible road) you can either cross the creek (flagging on the left of the road) and walk up the old road to the junction of those tracks, or you can follow the flagging tape on the right which takes you up the eastern side of Smoko Creek and eventualy joins the Smoko Falls/Mother Cummings Peak track.

I'd suggest the first option no matter where you're planning on going. If you are doing Smoko Creek or Mother Cummings, I'd head back to the car by sticking to the east side of Smoko Creek.

Thx all. Great info.....will now be able to fit more in the day without the extra km's to get to the start of the original track.

Thanks for the advice about the Smoko Falls/Mother Cummings route from the end of Smoko Road without crossing Mother Cummings Rivulet. I hadn't even noticed the tapes on the eastern side of the rivulet. Smoko Road is still driveable in a 2WD but is deteriorating. I had a great day up the rivulet today. A couple of photos attached.

I was back out at Smoko Road today. Finally saw Smoko Falls coming down that huge cliff in the pass between Mother Cummings Peak and Bastion Bluff/Mt Ironstone. Amazing cliff but the fall itself pales in comparison with the 100 or so cascades belting with water down Smoko Creek/Mother Cummings Rivulet...whichever it is. The sun interferes with photography up there by about 11AM, so in the afternoon dropped down to the Lower Chasm Falls on the other track off Smoko Road. 3rd visit there recently and finally managed to keep out the sun to take attached photo. Glorious day to be in the bush.
