I believe this excellent book written by Simon & Des has been around for a few years, it is back in the news so maybe an update or reprint,
(Maybe the first book was called, A High Country Heritage, correct me if I am wrong)
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-08-16/t ... ection=tasThere is a new push for the preservation of Tasmania's mountain huts, with the launch in Launceston of an illustrated book.
Tasmania High Country Huts is a collaboration between historian Simon Cubit and artist Des Murray, who worked on the project for two years.
The book features 25 huts spread around Cradle Mountain, the Central Highlands, and the Walls of Jerusalem.
They were used to shelter trappers, hunters, graziers and miners and were often built in a hurry, using only the bare essentials.
Mr Murray says hours of painstaking work went into researching and capturing the huts.
"Every one of them has its own character, and that's what you try to catch, I find them exciting things to draw and to paint."
Some of the buildings are more than a century old and many are in danger of falling down.
Mr Cubit says it is hoped the book will renew interest in the preservation of a unique piece of Tasmania's heritage.
"These huts are very fragile, they're very precious, and they're very vulnerable," he said.
"The key motivation for all this was trying to help, well try to present a new generation of Tasmanians with information about these huts."
