Parks Watch

Postby Nuts » Sun 12 Mar, 2017 1:38 pm

One winter, many years ago, we landed on Mt Ossa. It was part of a (P&W service) planned documentary project and very much a one-off. There was/is also definitely no concession for random landings?

Pic removed, PM for a copy.

So why is This helicopter where it is?

It's recent but nope, wasn't there. I'm sure a good question for anyone else who would care, sincerely hope to see a solid reason

Any and all landings are negotiated and approved by PWS, so a simple query to them with a date will clear up whether it was sanctioned or not.

Given the landing place, doubt the date is even necessary.
Simple is rare, nevertheless, reasonable call. Do you know a park service contact address for these commercial operations?

Might not be commercial. Might be government or media or joyflight... I'd just call the ranger in charge at Lake st Clair. If they don't know I'm positive they'd want to know...a date would be helpful. Flights happen for all sorts of reasons, landings are rarer...

What is the location? Looks like Geryon in the background?

Pool of Memories. Not somewhere they should be landing anything.

Was in there semi recently. The lake side area that is right by the track has been somewhat "paved" (in the past couple of years since I was in last??). Maybe it was for/during this work?

Parks have certainly landed there in the past to drop workers and gear, so unless we can get more information about when this photo was taken we will have to assume it was a Parks flight.

Not a lot more than what was contributed here. Not that i'm overly interested in further details, sounds legit.
If not i'm sure those involved, or otherwise interested parties, got the message.

If it was a parks jolly/ 'boys own' adventure, or worse, a commercial operation (endorsed or not), then they deserve and should always expect, their wrist slapping.
If not, no harm done, looks like a nice day at the office.
