Not quite correct. The original four proposed hut sites on the OLT were Waterfall Valley area, Pine Forest Moor, Pelion and Campfire Creek. Parks didn't approve of the Campfire Creek option and wanted it near what is now Bert Nichols Hut. The actual site selection for these sites was largely done on a joint walk though the park by parks staff and huts proponents. It was always the intention of the proponents that the huts be deliberately hidden and not impact on the existing camp sites or at least made as unobtrusive as possible. Can't comment on the Kia Ora hut location which was added later.
