Lost packs - Mount Bobs / The Boomerang

Postby Porter Ricks » Tue 04 Apr, 2017 11:27 am

Hi Folk,

Two packs have been left on the saddle between Mount Bobs and The Boomerang. The packs were left on the walking pad on the eastern side of the saddle above Lake Sydney (at approximately 5206199N 468531E) where a line of pink tape has been hung from the trees. The packs were left on the saddle on Tuesday 21 March.

The packs are described as:

- Osprey 55 liter pack - grey/orange.
- Kathmandu 15 liter pack - black/red. Camera inside. Pack was hanging from a tree.

Victorian bush walker who owns them is keen to have the packs recovered. If anyone is headed to the area and who be willing to recover (or partially recover) the packs could they please contact:

Ben Storer, Ranger
Huonville-Southwest Field Center
Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service

ben.storer@parks.tas.gov.au

I'll be able to put people in touch with the Victorian walker. Thanks!

Ben

Hi Ben,

If they happen to still be there next month we may be able to help out. Wondering, though - the map indicates a spot east of the Bobs/Boomerang saddle while the description indicates it's on the western side of the saddle. I still get muddled by which datum is being used at times  , but the difference in position seems to be more than that would account for.

'Tis rather intriguing how the packs came to be left behind - the immediate thought is evacuation. Hope the owners are ok.

Hi Tortoise,

Pack was misplaced on the eastern side of the saddle (typing mistake in the original post description has been corrected).

The walker is fine and was able to walk out to Farmhouse Creek under their own steam.

Have touched base with the Hobart Walking Club and hoping to try and find a party heading that way sooner. If nothing presents itself shortly I'll be in touch mate.

Thanks,

Ben

Hi Folk,

The Victorian bush walker was able to recover their lost packs over Easter. Thank you for the offers of assistance and a big thanks to the Hobart Walking Club who supplied a GPX file that led the walker straight back to their packs.

Good result.
