A new cat management plan is being worked on as we speak. http://dpipwe.tas.gov.au/invasive-species/cat-management-in-tasmania/draft-tasmanian-cat-management-plan Expect tighter controls around ownership of domestic cats.

I used to see a few on Maria Island when I was working there, but there was a pretty good bit of research going on there at the time in regards to the best way to remove them. According to the bloke who was doing study for the uni, going for an outright cull won't work, as the cats will go into hiding if they notice a rapid population loss. Species preservation at its finest I guess.
