2 months in the wilderness

Postby Jason richard watts » Sat 24 Jun, 2017 10:50 pm

Hi all,

I'm planning on exploring the Tasmanian Southwest wilderness for 2 months in Summer. Does anyone here have an experience in the lower West? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated as I'm currently in the planning and prep phase for the trip

Cheers,

Jase :) (forum newby)

Yeeeeeeess . . .

How are you planning to do this - set up food drops and then bugger off into the bush for two months, or will you be working from a base somewhere like Scotts Peak Dam, or as a series of shorter and extended walks, or . . .

There's a lot of SW Tassie. A lot of tracks, and a lot more that isn't tracked. Experience in off-track walking - and especially off-track Tasmania and the SW in general - are needed if you're going to tackle any of the untracked areas. Plus suitable equipment.

When people have an idea of what you've done and what sort of gear you have (or are prepared to get), then we can start talking about where to go.

I think NNW's questions are a pretty good starting point.

This has been some of the best advice offered on this forum. Given it has been 5 days and no response I would suggest maybe he is having a rethink. I would hope he has not thought you guys unhelpful and wandered off to some other place to find information but that is also likely.

Some forums do 'ave 'em, eh?

That was a terrific read; I was all set for the dramatic conclusion... and then, nothing. Nothing. :(

Agree Xplora. My usual view on posts like this is that very general queries about difficult areas usually indicates a lack of experience and usually no attempt to research it. Similar to "if you have to ask the price you can't afford it". Specific queries are fine.
