Lake Ada to WOJ via Lake Ball

Postby footsteps87 » Sat 14 Apr, 2018 8:30 am

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and just wanted to ask for any information on the access to WOJ from Lake Ada!
We are intending on travelling via Lake Antimony up the Bernes Valley to Lake Ball, into the Walls and out via Zion Gate and Lake Fanny back to Lake Ada.
We will be doing a 2 night, 3 day hike at the end of the month and would love any information/feedback on that route from anyone who has done that especially recently.
How long has it taken people on their first day from Lake Ada to Lake Ball ? We have read that from Zion Gate we should expect to take roughly 7.5hrs to get back to Lake Ada, however it’s the trip Lake Ada to Lake Ball we’re not 100% clear on a realistic timeframe. And what the creek crossings are currently like?
Any info would be great,
Thanks all

I've walked into the Walls via this route and it's pretty easy. We took our time exploring wherever we could so we were slow. We drove from Launceston and didn't get to Lake Ada until nearly lunchtime. We started walking and set up camp early at about Terry Tarn or thereabouts. Next day we walked via Theresa Lagoon to Lake Antimony where we spent some time exploring and having lunch. There's a refuge hut on the northern shore with an interesting story.

From there we headed up the Pine Valley camping early at Lake Sally. Nice swimming on a warm day.

Next day continue on. Make sure you are on the west side of Pine River to get around Lake Sonja as the thick bush goes right down to the waterline. You'll make Lake Ball in an hour or two from there, and Dixon's Kingdom soon after.

The aim for us is to get to Lake Ada by about 9-9:30 coming from Hobart and get the day going.
Ideally we would like to achieve Day 1 - Lake Ada to Lake Ball or atleast Solveig, it just depends on the weather and the creek crossings I guess.

It looks like a fantastic walk & we’re excited to see what it has to offer!
