Ben Lomond Day Shelter and Hotel destroyed by fire

BYO toilet, wood stove and weather shelter at the Ben for the foreseeable. Such a shame, I was up there a few weeks ago chatting to the Hotel owners who were in the midst of renovating, and they had really good plans for the season ahead.

Arson? Who the hell would do something like that, especially at this time of year. it's going to be a bleak winter up there with no shelter and no dunnies.

Up at the Ben last week and Parks has replaced the day shelter with what must be the warmest temporary facility in the southern hemisphere. A couple of shipping containers stuck together with some insulated panels on the side housing seats and tables, and three heat pumps running 24/7! Would hate to have to pay the fuel bill for the genny on that one at the end of the season. Toilets were still being completed.
