Sentinel is showing hotspots from a distance but not when zoomed in..

I would try clearing the cache on your phone/tablet - they look to be remnants from yesterday...or older

Some steady rain this morning in the south west. Only real smoke appeared to be coming from the Gordon range

From the TFS website:

"Community Information:
The fire at Gell River in Southwest Tasmania continues to burn. Reduced smoke over the fire ground has revealed areas of unburnt vegetation. The current size of the fire is estimated at 19,900 hectares in size.

The fire is approximately 20km northwest of Maydena township. The southern fire edge is approximately 7km north of Adamsfield.

Resources currently deployed to the Gell River bushfire include 100 personnel and 9 aircraft. Tasmanian fire crews are being assisted by 30 specialists from the NSW Rural Fire Service.

Firefighters will continue firefighting efforts on the north eastern edge, and the southern edge north of the Gordon Gorge."

Hoping things stay reasonably contained next couple of hot days. At this stage, looks like a decent wet system next weekend, hopefully wet enough to really mop things up.

There was a good cloud free Sentinel image came through yesterday showing almost no boundary change.

Has it been confirmed that Gordonvale has or has not burnt, or is that info not known yet?

It appears parts of Gordonvale have been burnt but not all the area

Tasmanian Land Conservancy may have more details if they have been in contact with the fire Incident Management Team

For information only - lightning strikes in the last 24 hours

Seems as if a few more strikes have occurred on the western Arthur (promontory lake) and frankland ranges as well as the precipitous bluff region causing new fires. Are these common and likely to self extinguish or, will they, under the current conditions pose a similar situation to the Gell River Fire, thus impacting more precious regions of the TWWHA?, if so, then this summers shaping up as one of many losses....

Trying to look for positives here but has the intensity of the fire been at a level that it will be easier for some of the burnt areas to recover?

The buttongrass will probably carry a fire again in 12 - 18 months, other veg will take a bit longer to recover and some alpine species will take decades, others maybe never. All part of the cycle of life.

Fires listed at The Lion - Frankland Range and at Lake Promontory - Western Arthurs. This is beyond f*cked. Precipitous Bluff - Southern Ranges...nooo...near Dixons Kingdom...Can climate change happen somewhere else please :'-( ... I'm hoping we don't need a thread for other fires this year.

Likely to eventuate into anything serious?, have seen these conditions replicated before without substantial consequences...

Already quite a few fires reported - lightning came through my place with very little rain afterwards

Hot spots on The Druids, just east of Mt Anne, as well as the upper Huon just before the Anne River junction.

Looks like the Gordon Gorge area has flared up and the fire near the Pine River seems to be moving quite quickly.

Hasn't picked up anything at Precipitous Bluff, WAs, WoJ or Frankland Range. Lets hope it stays that way.

Very hazy and smoky down in Huon this morning, is there somewhere that's not burning? ):

13 more fires registered in th south west.... a few around Mt Picton, may be producing the smoke

Fire on PB is small, in the forest on western flanks, prevailing wind coming from the wrong way...Mt Anne area fire is very concerning. Pic(Anne area) from this morning.

Also, I heard the tail end of a news piece on ABC local yesterday about someone getting fined for lighting fires in the Walls. Although I can't find any articles about it...

I heard that walkers approached a group of French backpackers and ask them to put out the fire. They refused and were later fined by parks and told to leave the NP.

Thanks for that. Hadn't seen that article, but it covers pretty much everything I'd heard on the radio. I would have thought it merit its own article, given the severity of both the consequence on peat fire, fires in the TWWHA, and the current fire issues in Tassie.

Impressive response to get them out at last light. It'd be interesting to know where the fire was at Lake Prom exactly and how big it was at time of evacuation. I know where the nice veg is

I've only sent him a few texts, and the small report I heard on the radio at 1pm didn't enlighten me much either. But I will see him tonight, and will be asking many questions!

What a day in SW Tassie - that has to be the worst I have ever seen. Lets hope some of them are small and not going anywhere!
