Just back from Central Plat.
Winds remained at almost gale force north westerly for 4 days, rain on Wed night, Thursday.
Went up Dixons track as there was no sign work etc that the track was closed.
The "closed" posters only went up on the 30th January apparently.
Had a nice time up there...

Anyone heading in to The Walls of Jerusalem and surrounding tracks can see what is becoming another increasing concern. A strong S/SE wind throwing embers 10-20klm followed by a westerly could open up a fire on a broad front with lots of fuel, and can happen so quickly. Very brave to be anywhere in the area.

3 day walks with the current fire situation

When it’s bushfire season and there are lots of fires around, it can only mean one thing, the weather and ground conditions are conducive to new fires, all over. It’d be irresponsible to try to ‘disappear’ in the bush on long walks unless absolutely necessary. No one can tell the location of the next spot fire. Far more sensible to concatenate the days into shorter and sections with multiple quick exits. Even then, the fire front can move faster than one can run. Even a PLB may not save the unlucky in those situations.
