What do people think about the plan to construct a bridge directly over Maingon Blowhole?

Tenders have just been called and construction will happen over winter. Here's a photo and diagram indicating what is proposed:



This is part of a project to upgrade the car park and all walking tracks around Remarkable Cave, Mount Brown and Crescent Bay.

Those type of structures whilst allowing access directly over the wonder for all to see, has the capacity to aesthetically destroy the very wonder itself.
I hope it's not bright shining galvanised.
Hopefully made of material that blends with surrounds.
Pre-rusted steel often used in other construction.

There's a move to put a walkway around The Bluff at Devonport.
Similarly that has potential to stick out like a sore thumb.
This could be another sore thumb!

There are some things I'm happy to just know it exists.
Knowing nothing of this blowhole it's hard to comment.
However watching that video didn't make me feel I'd want to rush to see it.

But there's a perfectly good track going around it. WTAF do they need a bridge - is it just so the finally completed Three Capes Track (ten years hence probably) gives its paying customers a view right down into the hole?

Perhaps the basis for a bungey jump tourist attraction?

I'm sure I'm not the first person to say this but if tourism is really to fill the void of forestry .......blah, blah, blah.......give and take......blah, blah.........concession made on both sides of the fence ( or blowhole ) etc. etc.
I dont really have too much of a problem with this one. It's close enough to the carpark for day trippers to get the're jollies and after Brown Mt there's not many other places they can go on to.
There is a lot worse things in the pipeline than this one to get bent out of shape over.

Good to hear from you Clint. Nice videos. I would have said the blowhole is fairly uninteresting until I saw the video. Must have been a wild day! A bridge would make it a better attraction. The track going around does not provide much of a view. Safety might be one of the issues to keep the unseasoned walkers from the edge. A bit like the fencing at Devils Gullet in the north.

One issue might be the possible degradation of the towering sand dunes at Crescent Bay which might occur with the possibility of a greater number of visitors.
