Frenchman's Cap- leaving spare gear at trailhead??

Sun 10 Mar, 2019 5:19 pm

Hi there,

I'll be going to Frenchman's Cap some time this year, catching the Tassielink buses.

This sounds like a silly question but would it be safe to hide my clean clothes/spare food in a camoflagued dry bag, reasonably well hidden, somewhere near the start of the trailhead?

Thehre's a small campsite not far down the track. Leave the stuff there or at the Franklin River (hardly any tourists go past the first swing bridge). Make sure it's clearly marked with your expected return date so that if someone does find it, they know it hahsn't been abandoned.

Yes i've left stuff stashed there. Head left from the bridge as far as you feel like going.

Use some twine to bind it in a light-weight 6×4 blue tarp ( also useful as a ground sheet ).

If there's food therein it might be useful to give a bit of an insect repellant spray. Try jamming it into a log if possible, a little off the ground and then a little camouflage.
